Doan's hang-up for leaving PHX is / will be proven to be term IMO. He's not going to leave for an extra mil a year and the same term. He's going to need the security of a contract to age 39 or something like that to leave.
Really wouldn't want to be the team that overpays Doan anyway. He brings a lot to the table in terms of battle/compete level and leadership but his offense isn't what it used to be. I'd say he's worth about 5 million/per for a couple years but any more years/money and it'll become a contract that looks bad in a hurry, imo.
I can tell you are still disappoint and it's affecting your judgement.
Calgary will want a decent scoring F back in addition to whatever future studs they might seek. Cooke won't cut it by a long shot. Realistically Kunitz would be the only option, plus some other younger, top assets. Pouliot would be a start.
Those quotes do not lift my spirits at this particular time as they sound like the same quotes given any other time of year / season.
In fact, whether Shero is 10 minutes away from starting TK and Duper on the Top 6 or 10 minutes away from pulling a Bobby Ryan trade, I think his responses to those type of media questions will always be the same.
