Burke will probably begone before Kessel. Burke's out if the Leafs don't make the playoffs again this year, which is likely considering the team is not in much better shape than last year. I don;t think it really matters what Burke thinks in the end.

IF Burke goes...

The new GM will trade Kessel for a center.

This aligns with the mandate that it was playoffs or else for the Leafs at that time.

Kessel doesn't really fit into that situation, as I doubt MLSE would prohibit Burke from making a trade.
Did Sundin request that trade?

I can't see Kessel going anywhere if Burke is still here.

I don't have all that information, what I do have is it sounded like it was a done deal but JFj was denied. I can only speculate Sundin was okay with it based on the impression from the Red Wings' room. IIRC, he also had a year left on his contract, so it would have been 1 year. We're going back a few years now. Heck it was before our 5 year rebuild. This person also told me about Carter and Richards being offered up weeks before they were done.

Excellent, but the post I was referring to was comparing Mats Sundin leaving to Kessel potentially leaving, as if the situations are even remotely similar. In fact, i think the situation actually supports the Kessel stating crowd. That being said, I believe if Mats truly wanted to be a Wing, he would have been a Wing.

I could see Kessel leaving if things don't drastically improve.

If he leaves and we get nothing out of him, I'd be pretty mad.

Players leave ... just the way the cookie crumbles.

Leafs picked up a player coming out of his ELC, and will have to pay the price for that.

I guess we have to remember the CBA is expiring, and we don't know the details of the next one. Maybe he won't be UFA.

Agree with that. How many times did Sundin re-up here instead of testing the Market?

Do you think if Bromma, Sweden was in the NHL he would have re-up in Toronto?

I really think it depends on whether he is UFA (new CBA) and whether the team is coming off a playoffs appearance.

I'd probably agree with this. Kessel for a young, impact center.

I'd do a 1-for-1 swap of Kessel for Benn, probably. Though Dallas has wingers so I'm not sure they would. And fellow Leafs fans probably argue that Kessel >>>> Benn.

Phil's hometown doesn't have an NHL team either

Kessel's contract goes until the end of the 2013-2014 season; thus, he cannot re-sign with the Leafs until July 1st, 2013.

Not going to be a fun season.

I think this will be a disastrous season for kessel under Carlyle. His system will not mesh with Kessel. So yes Kessel will run away as fast as he can.

He did good in Boston under CJ, doesn't he play a system like RC?

It's just a feeling based on the fact that he did not manage to improve the team significantly enough to get better results on the ice than his predecesor. Top brass wrote an apology letter after the monumental collapse and missing the playoff so I am assuming that if we don;t make the playoffs again this year Burke is toast. I can ask you what you have to backup the idea Kessel will stay?

Kessel isn't stupid. He is now trade bait for a number one center. He played to show us all last year, next year,he won't care and won't like Carlyle on his back about defense. He is already gone.
He will want a number one center to play with, can you blame him?

"Maybe it is time for a change."

Lets take a look at the full quote, shall we?

From the National Post:
Quote:
"I don't really know what to say about that any more," Kessel said of his slump. "I'm trying. Obviously, it's not going right. It might not be working out here. What are you going to do?"

Kessel was asked about the line change: "I don't know," he said. "Maybe it's just not working out, I guess. Who knows? I didn't get anything going. Maybe it's time for a change or something. Who knows?"
http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/...urn=nhl-317534

Your not correct at all. That quote was about him and his line mates, nothing else. Nothing even close to what you are insinuating it does.
