They've said that they're going to make a bigger difference between the star players and the average players in terms of overall. For example, according to the Oilers fans, RNH is rated as an 80 overall, when he was like an 82 in NHL 12. It's hard to predict right now seeing as I don't know how drastic the changes will be, but I've seen some screen shots of players in the low 70s overall, and they're NHL starters. My guess is that Nichol, Reaves, Cole, Porter and players like that will be a little bit lower. Petro deserves at least an 87, but I don't think he'll get it. Probably around an 85 again.

I think Pietrangelo got his credit this season, and will push 90.

Sobotka - 72
Nichol - 70
Langenbrunner - 70

Or something like that they should be like. In '05 overalls were realistic but after that they have been quite awful IMHO.

If they really wanted to make it realistic, I'd do something like this...

Forwards
Backes 84 C
McDonald 84 C-
Oshie 82 C+
Perron 82 C+
Steen 82 C
Berglund 80 C+
Stewart 80 C+
D'agostini 75 C
Sobotka 74 C
Langenbrunner 74 C-
Nichol 72 C-
Reaves 70 C
Porter 70 C

Defenseman
Pietrangelo 84 B
Shattenkirk 80 B-
Jackman 80 C
Polak 78 C
Russell 75 C
Cole 70 C+
Woywitka 66 C

Goalies
Halak 82 C
Elliott 80 C

Top Prospects
Tarasenko 72 B
Schwartz 70 B
Allen 64 B-
Rattie 62 B-

Edit: Each potential grade above C accounts for the possible growth of 2 points overall. For instance, Pietrangelo could become a 90 overall, but Berglund and Stewart would top out at 82 If they hit their potential. If Tarasenko grows each season over the next 5 years with a max growth of 2 points/year, he could become an 82 in player growth alone, with the potential of becoming an 88 IF he reaches his potential. Schwartz on the other hand could only make it to an 86 overall if everything goes right. The prime age for this potential boost would be at the age of 25 or so.

RNH is apparently an 80 overall in NHL13. It seems like they did an overhaul on how the overalls are rated.

And according to the GM-Connected video, Pietrangelo, Halak, and Oshie are the Blues' top players.

GM mode might actually be realistic now. It was so easy to make teams into dynasties. It was way to easy to turn the Blue Jackets or Islanders around. The best way to go was to trade for a bunch of draft picks in any round and let the computer sim the draft. It's amazing how they always found diamonds in the rough.

I don't like how they only show 4 years of stats of players then it just vanishes after the next 4 or so. I know its a small thing, but it annoys me.

Oh it drives me up a wall too. I always play one GM with the Blues, and sim a few others with rebuilding teams and the Sabres, and it is one of the most annoying things. Especially when I end up with an Ovechkin or some other top player later in their career.

I feel like EA has gotten lazy on the little things over the years since there is no competition in any of their games. Anyone remember 989 Sports lol.

I just hope they take out the commentary that talks about Erik Johnson and Eric Brewer... Pretty lame effort to keep that in NHL 12, when both players were traded the year before.

That might happen. I was shocked when it was still in NHL 12. I know they have the same commentators, but I hope they refine them somewhat and make them at least make true statements. Also, I understand why it happens, but I wish they would do something about it. If you do a fantasy draft for a season or a GM, they will still make a reference to a player that is not a part of the team. For example, if you're the Capitals, even if Ovechkin and Green are not on your team, the announcers will still say something about them because that's their default for the Capitals. I'm sure there's a way to change that. I can't wait for the day they switch announcers. I'm sure it will be for the next gen console though.

Anyone else think that the GM connected mode is going to be awesome. It's probably the closest thing we will ever get to being a true GM. Typical GM modes are just too easy and get boring and fantasy leagues are repetitive and not realistic.

The only thing I wonder about is how do you make trades and free agent signings when you could potentially have 25 GM's on a team. I think it'd be pretty interesting to be in a GM mode with 29 other people from around the world. It'd make turning around the Blue Jackets a lot more rewarding.

On Nhl 12 why are the blues so damn slow? When I play with other teams they seem quite a bit faster then the blues.

We've always been underrated IMO because we never quite performed on the ice. I'm expecting to see a boost in some players to put the team as a whole on par with the other top teams.

I saw something online that they aren't going to overhaul how the overalls are done, but just tweak it with 6 categories instead of just the previous 3. I'm expecting Pietrangelo to flirt with 90 and other players to get a little bump as well.

I'm curious to see Tarasenko's rating when he actually gets to play an NHL game. I don't have much of a problem with Schwartz's ranking seeing as Kreider is a 68. I'd imagine that when they put Tarasenko in the game he will come in around 69 or 70 until he plays a full season. I'm pleasantly surprised that Pietrangelo is an 87, although Sens fans are irate that Karlsson is only an 86. If I was doing the ratings, I would bump Porter down a bit, and Backes up 1 or 2 points. The overall rating doesn't matter whatsoever, but it would be nice if he was bumped up a bit. I'm fine with the other ratings.

They did pretty well. I'd say Schwartz's rating is way off and should be about 10 points higher. McDonald should be in the 84 or 85 range instead of 81. Jackman should be a few points lower, maybe around 80. Otherwise, pretty solid.

When Tarasenko is added, I'm expecting a rating between 94 and 98.

Isn't EA Vancouver in charge of the NHL games? If so, that would explain those ratings.
