2013 Contracts Expiring.

Semin
LaRose
Skinner
Stewart
Brent
Nodl
Wallace
Dwyer
Corvo
Boucher

Semin, if he puts up 80 points and gets along, keeper.
LaRose, keeper, he versital and plays responsible.
Skinner, keep.
Stewart, let go.
Brent, good 4th line center, keep.
Nodl, keep, cheap shutdown wing.
Wallace, who?
Dwyer, let go, can be repalce with Bowman or some of the others.
Corvo, who answered that call?
Boucher, let go, find a back up not hurt 80% of the season.

I know JR doesn't negotiate during the season, but think Semin would be extended mid-season if he's playing quite well? Or will they want to see his playoff performance first?

Personally, I would. Did it with Ruutu last year, and Ruutu sucks, so I dunno why he wouldn't do it with Semin if he were playing well, just to keep him off the market.

Semin - I think they already have a handshake agreement for a new contract if Semin does well and likes it here.

LaRose - Will be on the team as long as JR is in charge which, I believe, is forever.

Skinner - The question is more about when to re-sign than about whether to re-sign.

Stewart - No use for him.

Brent - He's good for his role as 4th line C, but others might (and most likely will) be able to take his job.

Nodl - Good for a defensive role but that's about it.

Wallace - ....

Dwyer - The same as Nodl. I wouldn't keep them both.

Corvo - We'll see how he does..

Boucher - Has he even played for us?

Actually, not any more. He negotiated with Ruutu and Gleason during the season last year. If by mid-season, Semin looks like a fit and is performing well, I think JR will try to re-sign him during the season.

Nodl and Skinner are both RFAs IIRC, so I'd bet that both will be in the fold next season.

Semin - worth keeping if he's a good fit here, doubt motivation will be an issue for him this season.
LaRose - he's going to be a career Cane, nuf said. Whether he's asked to play a scoring role here or a checking/aggitating role here, he'll do it, so we'll keep him.
Stewart - good as gone.
Brent - debatable, we already have a good replacement in the system with Nash but if Brent's an effective #4 or can play wing he's worth keeping around.
Wallace - AHL depth signing IMO.
Dwyer - depends on if we keep Brent around. Good defensive winger, but not exceptional.
Corvo - We'll see who of our AHLers and Murphy is ready to step up this season before making that call. We can certainly find a better dman as a UFA though.
Boucher - He nearly retired this past offseason, I would bet he actually does this offseason. Let Peters and Murphy battle it out for the backup spot in camp/pre-season.

I wouldn't be surprised. I think losing Cole to Montreal last year was the turning point for JR on this issue. He realized how quickly UFA contracts can get out of hand and got Ruutu and Gleason (what would have been 2 top 10 UFAs this year, top 5 in the part of Gleason IMO) under contract at what's looking like reasonable rates right now. He'll probably try to do the same with Semin if it's working out for him here.

The only players in that list that really matter are Semin and Skinner.

You could let the rest of them go, offer league minimum contracts to a random assortment of waiver-caliber players and you wouldn't suffer one bit.

Semin - completely dependent on how this year turns out, who knows.
LaRose - everybody already knows he'll be back.
Skinner - will be back
Stewart - I'd let him walk, and think the front office will feel the same way.
Brent - not opposed to him returning, no clue whether he will or not
Nodl - no real reason to keep him.
Wallace - meh, gone.
Dwyer - interesting one, I'd vote no but I think the front office will likely bring him back.
Corvo - same as with Dwyer, I think he might have a final foothold in here now until he hangs them up.
Boucher - he's gone.

If Corvo wants to play after this year, I wouldn't really have a problem dropping a re-sign on him for $800k or so, as a #6/7 Dman. Def. not $1M+ unless he has a Harrison-esque resurgence.

Maybe we can get another 2nd round pick for Corvo at the deadline. So far, we've gotten a 2nd round pick, Oscar Osala, and a 4th round pick by trading him twice.

Didn't Corvo's deal come with some kind of NTC/NMC?

Yes, therefore we can't get a 7th rounder as hoped for.

I want to keep Skinner, Semin maybe, Nodl, Dwyer maybe.

I would keep Semin if he meshes, Skinner obviously, and LaRose. I like Brent and Nodl but would prefer to see a fourth line with more grit players like Moen, Prust, Thornton, Dorsett, Konopka come to mind.

Semin - keep if it works, if not, there will be several good UFA's ready to take his place the next year.
Skinner - duh
LaRose - keep, perfect 3rd liner
Stewart - bye
Brent - only if he's cheap
Nodl - buh-bye
Wallace - possibly a keep, let's see how he plays. If he can bring some size and toughness to the 4th line that already makes him a more useful player than Nodl/Dwyer/etc.
Dwyer - nope, bye
Corvo - gone, he's just a placeholder for a 2013 rookie anyway
Boucher - surely gone
