I get a kick out of the range because every club I hit is 150-160 yards. From the 8 iron up to the 4 iron.

Aaaaand I'm home again. Going back to Kotka in Sunday.

The student apartments are surprisingly nice, I've got a great room-mate (23 year old guy from Hämeenlinna). I was at first afraid it's going to be some ran-down flat with a mattress on the floor and something that used to be a table but it looks really brilliant. I'm also happy that I have an elder room-mate because let's face it, most of the starting students are 16 in Finland and not very mature. It's also most likely first time they live away from home so they have no idea about the importance of proper nutrition, personal hygiene or cleaning up their mess. And I won't get even started about doing their share of purchasing supplies such as toilet paper or cleaning products for the apartment.

I'm also getting a second room-mate next week, at least according to the list of residents. I've heard that he can be a bit of a troublemaker, specifically not cleaning up and causing problems for himself and his room-mates last year. He's apparently 17, so I can imagine not very mature. We have a deal with the elder guy, specifically if he starts not to clean up his mess and being an ******* towards us, we implement a zero-strike warning system. That means the first time he leaves dishes unwashed for over two days, he gets thrown out. Not of the door, through the window.

Watched one of the ESPN "30 for 30" films last night about the day of June 17, 1994. Basically it is an hour of archived footage of various news sources covering various sports events of that day:

-Arnold Palmer's final round of his final US Open
-Ken Griffey Jr. hitting his 30th Home Run of the season (30 HR's by the middle of June)
-The Knicks/Rockets in Game 5 of the NBA Finals
-The World Cup was being held in Chicago
-The New York Rangers' Stanley Cup Parade
-Oh, and OJ Simpson was taking a Police-escorted tour of Los Angeles

Very interesting film and very nostalgic to see all those events happen again, especially the OJ chase.

That's so weird. I was at an unpainted furniture store with my parents (I was 11) watching it on TV.

Found a nice set of Cleveland irons for $100. Not 20 years old, not a knockoff, basic set of clubs 3-PW. I can probably get $60-75 for my assorted clubs so think it'd be a nice move.

Also getting much better with the safety razor. Opened up the blade and used a little more pressure. Less burn, even with some alcohol after shave. It's already a closer shave than any cartridge razor with less irritation. Getting better on the neck and chin. Very relaxing too.

Just your namesake grabbing the ball, digging a hole downrange and popping it through the ground again.

I don't know how you guys have the patience to play golf. By the third hole I'm bored with the whole bit. At this point I only play every Father's Day after playing quite a lot in high school.

MSP radio ratings. Bad news if you're 1500 on top of the fact they'll likely lose their flagship sporting rights (Twins) at the end of the year.

I have no idea how anyone can stand to listen to 1500 for entertainment value at this point. All they've got going for them is a pretty well done internet/blogger like venue. But that's not going to float them.

Got hired for a new job. No longer factory/warehouse stuff, now I'm in data entry/customer service. Get to sit in a nice, plush office setting. Only downside is business casual every day.

But, I go from 8/hour to 10/hour, so...raise!

I use to listen to rock on 92KQRS and 93X but now all I listen to is KFAN. The FAN is the way to go.

Sad but true - when your main moneymaker is the third-best thing you do, things aren't going well.

No surprise with 1500, and I've been saying it for years.

It has nothing to do with politics and more to do with on-air talent. Nobody (especially from Minnesota) wants to listen to the same boring talking points from 20 years ago. Us righties have moved on. People want to be entertained, which is what Soucheray and Mischke do (and near as I can tell they are doing just fine, always have).

When 1500 was doing politics, they had the best lineup among political stations, so they got the best numbers. Vogel, Soucheray, Lewis, Mischke, and Bob Davis. They went after the Twins and couldn't afford to keep Mischke, lost Lewis, fired Davis, and only had Soucheray. They sucked forever and then went to sports, but all their sports guys are worse than KFAN, so everybody (including myself) listens to the Fan.

Also, holy crap, who wants to LISTEN to national sports talk? All they do is talk about the New York teams. KFAN is huge because we all love to ***** and moan about how much the (insert MN team) sucks. Sportscenter is huge because we like to WATCH sports highlights. But who the hell wants to HEAR about who should be the 2nd string QB for the Giants or Lakers vs Heat for the millionth time in the offseason?

TLDR, 1500 needs to find some entertaining local TALENT.

So to sum up, when the majority of your on-air talent bring in older listeners who don't count for advertising rates or the sidekicks at KFAN to sound KFAN-lite and cover the same subjects as your competitor, you won't do well on the broadcast side.

(Sorry folks at 1500 who I know/don't know if you read this)

Different note: I listen to some national sports talk - I'm a big Dan Patrick Show fan. It's good to sometimes get a national perspective but again it goes back to being entertaining or sounding fake like Mike and Mike.

Speaking personally, this is a big reason why I just don't care to listen to 1500. The sad thing is I did like all of the KFAN guys before they went to 1500 (aside from Doogie, who's just plain annoying/sounds like he tries too hard to be who he thinks he should be. I.E Joe Nelson, LaPanta). It's hard to have a lot of respect when you can't find your own talent and are just recycling what we already know. Even if at one point I found many of those personalities entertaining. Now, after the switch, I just have a difficult time taking them seriously/going out of my way to tune in.

Yeah 1500 has a few good guys who were unknowns in the market but they're all in odd timeslots or fill-ins. Then there are folks like Souhan, who isn't a former KFAN guy yet at least to me seems to be a poor man's Barriero.

Speaking of radio. During the Suter-Parise saga, there wasn't any coverage down here. I was shocked.

How is sports talk radio down in Arkansas? Is it all SEC and NFL all the time?
