Projected Standings: East (1)

It's the offseason, and I'm bored. Stumbled upon a thread on the main boards asking people about their projected standings for next season, and I thought it would be interesting to poll people for that.

I know it's going to be biased, but try not to be.

EDIT: I'll be closing this Sunday evening so we can move on with #2.

I think if Crosby remains healthy, and Malkin plays the way he did last year, it should be the pens.

I've gotta think at this point the favourite is NY. They were first last year and they added a really skilled powerforward. They're good. Pittsburgh, Boston and Philly should be good too.

Penguins defense still licks, though having the world's best player, and the world's second best player on the roster... I'd still go with them (or Rangers) as #1 in the East. I think the Baboons will be up there as well.

I'm going with the Rangers. They addressed their weakness on offense and picked up Rick Nash. Gaborik-Richards-Nash is going to be a lethal top line.

They're most-likely not going to be playing on the same line.

As long as Malkin and Crosby are healthy, the Pens are the favourites for first place for the next decade (well maybe not, but you know what I'm getting at)

If the Rangers win, are you going to going to leave off Pittsburgh, New Jersey, Philadelphia and NY Islanders for the 2nd and 3rd place threads? Are you doing standings based on divisional seeding, or just points?

Just points; it's too difficult to do it with divisional seeding.

I think Pittsburgh is going to have some problems with defense (and because of that goaltending too) this season.
Trading away Michalek for scraps was a very unwise move. They could have gotten so much more for him, or they could have kept him (and trade him away if they got Suter like they wanted to happen).

Anywho, Rangers look like the best team in the East.

Too difficult? You just remove the other 4 teams from the Atlantic division, and after the 2nd place thread, only put up SE division teams (Assuming NE team finishes 2nd).

I'm going to be the only Canuck fan going with the surprise Bruins

I think Rask is going to step it up this season and show he is a #1 talent, and an amazing goalie. I think they are going to edge out New York, but not by much. It could go either way

New York Rangers.

They have two things that the Pens don't have: A stable defense and a reliable goalie

I'll do that then . Too much paper writing has turned my brain to mush...

I think Bruins will take it as well. They won't be so distracted by Thomas this year and they still have the garbage NE division to feast off of(12 free points just from Toronto alone)

Pittsburgh almost won the East last year with Crosby only playing 22 games. I think this is a no brainer.

I'd say it's probably the Rangers. The only question mark is can they stay healthy with that play style and is the core players' willingness to keep it up still there, year after year. But still, they added Nash and have Kreider for whole season, that should be close to 50 more goals (on paper of course). Even if Gaborik is injured first few months the offence is still a lot better than last year.

Pittsburgh lost Staal and Michalek this summer, those are significant losses. Still very good team and they could have one of those young defenseman ready to step up, but I wouldn't be surprised if Flyers ended up ahead with guys like Schenn, Couturier, Voracek and Read being year older.

Boston will probably be the only team to really challenge these 3 Atlantic division teams and therefore should finish 2nd in the conference.

Same, I think it goes to BOS. But the race for the ATL division will be real tight though, between NYR and PIT. I 'm guessing PIT comes in 2nd in the East.

Also think CAR may challenge for the 8 seed too. I like what they've done up front.

NY Rangers. Just don't see Pittsburgh having the depth.

Nothing more than an injury to Lundqvist away though. All of a sudden Rangers might end up third in the division.

I'm going with the Florida Panthers. Once they acquire Luongo they'll be the class of the South East and will feast on the porous defense to their neighbors, the young goaltending of Washington and the lacking top end depth of the Jets. The Canes might give them a go, but they may still in that transition period of new players in new system
