I feel like his production isn't good enough for the 3rd line. Even though he did get somewhere in that goal range last year he had like 6 of them in the last 8 games or so. He was useless 99% of the year.

unfortunately this. i hate the 3rd line and would love it if they could make a move to knock pyatt off of it and bring in another guy to compliment hagelin. if yogan or mccolgan impresses in the first two months, i would bring one of those two up. st croix isn't ready and i don't think christian thomas will ever be ready. this 3rd line is exactly where JAM could have fit perfectly if they would have resigned him

McDonagh-Girardi
Staal-Stralman
DZ-Bickel

i don't think sauer is ready for the beginning of the season and we start off with bickel. i'm fine with bickel in the beginning of the season, but if we can get sauer back by january i think it instantly makes the rangers the best defense in hockey (and probably the best team).

Not to mention, as a pivot he is horrible at distributing the puck.

Pyatt, in his career has averaged 30 points a season, that is third line numbers. Last year, he had a down year, but he seems to rebound every year he has a dip. I mean the way I see it, he is an upgrade over Prust.

i don't mind pyatt and i'm not saying he's not a 3rd liner, i just have a gut feeling that playing with boyle and hagelin might not be the greatest thing for any of them. that line is the shakiest for me by far right now.

Well, imo, if your going to trade anyone on that third line- Boyle is the one to go, not Pyatt. Both Hagelin, and Pyatt have wheels.

i'd rather strålman on his strong side than del zotto, an o-first defenseman on his weak side any day. idk how you could even consider otherwise.

Agreed. In addition, if Sauer does come back, they will very likely want to manage his minutes - and MDZ will pick up plenty of extra TOI during power plays. Those pairs make tons of sense to me - at least to start out.

Lines with healthy Gaborik

Nash - Richards - Callahan
Kreider - Stepan - Gaborik
Pyatt - Boyle - Hagelin
Rupp - Halpern - Asham

McDonagh - Girardi
Staal - Stralman
Del Zotto - Bickel

I didn't put Sauer in but it sounds like he is progressing well.

Hagelin spent the occasional shift on RW when Torts would put him out there with Kreider and Richards. Either way, he or Pyatt will have to play on the off-wing.

Nash-Richards-Callahan
Kreider-Stepan-Gaborik
Hagelin-Boyle-Pyatt
Asham-Halpern-Rupp

In a perfect world Miller comes up midseason to center the 3rd line. We pick up another scorer to push Pyatt to the fourth line.

Nash-Richards-Callahan
Kreider-Stepan-Hagelin
Miller-Boyle-Pyatt
Rupp-Halpern-Asham

Just based on the fact that Gaborik won't be healthy, Miller will probably be inserted and be glad to be in the lineup, despite not playing his position.

I'll take Stralman on the 2nd pair before Sauer. Think Staal last season, whenever Sauer is recovered enough to play again he will still be over a year removed from hockey related activity and he will need to shake off a lot of the rust, not to mention he won't have training camp under his belt. Stralman has shown that Torts can trust him enough, let Sauer ease himself back into his previous role.

There are a lot of variables to take into account at this point when trying to make a day 1 roster. People seem to forget that Gaborik is out until late November at least. Sauer is a complete mystery. Asham has to serve a 1 game suspension.

That's a lot of variables, not event taking into account CBA issues (such as the cap number, whether there is a work stoppage or not, etc).

Assuming that the NHL starts on time, here is my Day 1 roster:

Hagelin-Richards-Nash
Kreider-Stepan-Callahan
Thomas-Boyle-Pyatt
Haley-Halpern-Rupp

McDonagh-Girardi
Staal-Stralman
Del Zotto-Bickel

I think Thomas will surprise and at least get a few games at the beginning of the season, especially with Gaborik and Asham out.

By the end of the year, I'm hoping for this:

Nash-Richards-Callahan
Kreider-Stepan-Gaborik
Hagelin-Boyle-Thomas
Pyatt-Halpern-Asham

McDonagh-Girardi
Staal-Sauer
Del Zotto-Stralman

Why does Pyatt go from 3rd line to out?

Pyatt gets to start third line duty w Boyle and Hags. Later in the yr miller or Thomas could make noise. Rupp, halpern, asham the certain 4 th liners

Forgot about Pyatt. He can take Asham or Rupp's spot on the 4th line.

i'll interpret "day one" as in 1st game of the season. no Gaborik, no Sauer

Hagelin-Richards-Callahan
Kreider-Stepan-Nash
Pyatt-Boyle-Miller/Rookie
Rupp-Halpern-Asham

McD-Girardi
Staal-Stralman

Do some of you not read? It says day 1 line combos. Gaborik is out

Nash-Richards-Callahan
Kreider-Stepan-Hagelin
Pyatt-Boyle-Rookie (Thomas?)
Asham-Halpern-Rupp

Wow losing Gaborik really hurts...

This. And maybe Miller in the lineup midseason depending on the team and his development so far.

I was thinking EXACTLY these lines actually .

Interesting that now Cally will be able to be on more of an offensive line. I agree. I think Torts is not going to put the captain on a third line and revise the shot-blocking, defence-till-death role he had to play last year as a result of our lack of goal-scoring and offensive threats (nash, richards and now krieder and then gabs, when he's back).

Looking forward to seeing Cally given the freedom to be more offensive.

Agreed?

Day 1:

Nash-Richards-Hagelin
Kreider-Stepan-Callahan
Pyatt-Boyle-???
Rupp-Halpen-Asham

We desperately need Doan or someone else so Hagelin can add some offense to the 3rd line.

Eventually:

Nash-Richards-Gaborik
Kreider-Stepan-Callahan
Hagelin-Miller-Thomas
Boyle-Halpern-Pyatt
