eh. They said they would try him at center. That doesn't mean that it makes sense to slot him into the number one center spot. I don't think Carlyle was suggesting that he would be ideal for it, just that since we have noone else that can play that spot, it wouldn't hurt to try it.
I think that a Gary Roberts trained Nazem Kadri is a much better option for 1C.
Certainly, if a number one center and goaltender isnt obvious as the season progresses, the club will be in a compromised position. However, these threads only seem to surface in times of boredom, or as the ship begins to sink. It's not a present reality while in the midst of win streaks, or resurgencies or the apparent realization that perhaps we've finally found our number one goaltender as in the case of the "Reiminister of Defence", "Optimus Reim" etc...
Instead we pine for assets in other clubs that were only players of AHL reknown at one point and potentially serviceable, while forgetting and berating our own versions of the same.
Our fanbase lacks grace. We see the situation for what is, and we moan about options that aren't perfectly available to us while inventing scenarios that "could've been" acheived without ever acknowledging in same weight the elements that prevented every armchair ideation to begin with.
Eighth place by a point at the end of the regular season is essentially the only goal most care about at this point, correct? That's not a target that this present squad can't achieve. Lesser clubs without two Top 10 scoring wingers have done as much. The reality to this aim, is that it's yet to be missed with respect to the season in question.
Can we all as a collective simply take the lead and create conversations to that enhanced end? You know, the one where when we actually miss the playoffs (Again, yes again, if need be...) we then discuss what's needed with an actual concluded context?
I don't doubt that this club like all clubs, needs one thing or another to improve, but I also don't doubt that the two halves of two seasons aren't reconcliable in this upcoming campaign.
