This is not good news, carolina will be much better this year IMO, if they can get their hands on another quality defender, they possibly be the next team to leave the leafs on the outside looking in.
No real harm in a one year deal. Better value than Komisarek/Connolly and Lombardi for a year.

So with this, they reach the cap floor and sign an offensive threat to slide into their Top 6 to go along with Eric Staal, Jordan Staal, Skinner, Ruutu, Jokinen and now Semin.
Thats a pretty solid Top 6, along with the fact that they have Cam Ward and nearly $12million in cap space still.

Not sure why everyone's so happy we didn't get Semin. I don't love him as a player but adding talent without any trade cost and as a short term experiment, there's no downside at all.
Definitely didn't expect him to go to Carolina. Eric Staal, Jordan Staal, Jeff Skinner, Alex Semin, Jussi Jokinen and Tuomo Ruutu, that's actually a VERY good top 6! Obviously they're set in goal too with Cam Ward. Their defense isn't great, but it isn't awful either, they've got Pitkanen, Faulk, Gleason, McBain and Harrison from last year, Corvo was a good value signing, and I could see Ryan Murphy playing some games this year. Their bottom 6 isn't great, but even still I could see them being fairly decent next year. Definitely another team that could be better than us.
Oh please. If we signed Semin you guys would complain about why Burke spent this much money on signing a "soft, heartless Russian" and not going by his "toughness" model. So pathetic.
I don't see the big deal here. Semin has had 2 back to back 54 point seasons and no GM seems to trust him for more than 1 year. Also, we have Lupul who is just as good, same age, and is cheaper.
Grass ain't greener, our offense on the wings isn't an issue anyway.
Not sure why people are happy that a team competing for a playoff spot with the Leafs is getting better. You people really like draft picks that much that you would rather a better draft position over a playoff spot?
