Well played sir.

I figured we could exploit detroits need for a top 4 dman and satisfy the ducks need for a 2c ,a roster player and a blue chip prospect (brennan) along w a first. Lydman was a throw in i dont know hows he is valued in anaheim, i slotted him because he was successful here and could take sekeras spot. Thanks for the feedback.

Pffft. Like the guys who did that are something special.

Wayne Gretzky
Jari Kurri
Mario Lemieux
Mike Gartner
Mike Bossy
Rick Martin

Those are the guys I can think of off the top of my head. Like they were good or something.

One big difference though: while Ryan complained in one interview about the lack of respect he felt, he hasn't formally requested a trade formally like Nash did at the deadline. Right now, Murray can afford to sit back and play hard-to-get with other teams by asking whatever he wants. As soon as Ryan demands a trade, threatens a hold-out or does something that spells danger for locker room chemistry, Murray will suddenly lose a lot of leverage and every team in the league will know to wait him out til his asking price lowers out of pressure.

I think Detroit needs more immediate help than just Sekera - especially when Filppula represents the next generation behind Datsyuk/Zetterberg and has finally blossomed into the talent they hoped for. Whether it's from Buffalo or Anaheim, the Wings would probably want a forward prospect not far away from NHL duty in addition to Sekera.

Ugh, I'd love Ryan on the Sabs. One of you put it best, Ryan is top level talent, something we're missing.

If you keep going back and forth about Ryan and what he brings. Go back and watch the last Olympics, he was a monster for us. That's when my man crush came to be. He hits, and let's define hits, he FINISHES checks, something Stafford has never once done, never once. He finishes checks. He's big, and he scores. He will elevate the compete level of the Sabres. Period.

As for what I'd trade for him. I'd like to think we are keeping 19 & 63 but just about everyone else is available. I think it starts with Sekera, and I hate trading him but give to get and he's (contract biggie) our best bargaining chip. (no way in hell Pomms name has come up, he'd only be traded to a contending team looking to get over the hump anyway) Sekera fits all the criteria: young, good and cheap. After that I do not hesitate to close the deal with Stafford (he's been here for years and frustrated each one of us for years), a prospect not named G,G or Armia and the 'of course' first. Last month was our 'dream draft' and now it's time to use our future picks to tweak the team.

As for Ryan and the Ducks, please, you've pissed off a prima donna millionaire athlete, as he said his name has been mentioned for years...he's had it. He's gone.

For me, just pull the trigger on the Sekera, Stafford, Adam/Pysk, 1st deal. Overpayment, sure but no one in the East wants a team of Ryan, Ott, Foligno and Kaleta on separate lines....no team in the East. If the youngins step up a bit this year, we'd be dangerous.

Teams don't get better by overpaying, no matter how good the player they get is.

In the Doan thread someone mentioned something that hasn't been brought up here, or explored.....Miller and his wife.

Rumor was that there was a deal on the able before Lucic hit. We all know about his actress wife and Anger Management on FX, she is on a hit sitcom.

Hmmmm, does this, or could this throw a twist into the Aryan talks. Yes, they want a 2C but how does the face of USA Hockey change the marketing of a small market team like the Ducks, with a 'star' wife?!?!

Seriously, it's a business, and a Miller/wife marketing scheme in the LA area could work for THAT franchise, as it really comes down to dollars.

Sometimes they do. It depends on how you define "overpayment," probably. There's a doctrine that goes that whoever gets the best player in the deal wins the deal. And the argument in support is that you can replace lesser players far more easily than you can get real superstars.

I don't know how true the argument is, however. Stafford, I think, should be good for 55-65 points next year. Doan will be good for 45-55. Doan's commanding $7M.

Consider Pittsburgh. They have the two best players in the league, by most accounts. Another stud 3rd line shutdown center. And they can't round out their roster with a decent enough supporting cast to get them past the first round.

No, it hasn't. Well, it hasn't since anger management debut.

Really, she's on a real sitcom, making a name for herself. I'll be the first to admit, i had to look her up around the Olympics bc I had no idea who she was, still never have seen her in anything (or recognized) until now. I know I'm not alone either.

It's big right now, Charlie Sheen... Come on. We're not winning the Cup this year, trade $6m+ in Miller and get Ryan for the future....

Something to think about...

Bobby Ryan didn't score 30 goals his rookie year, he had 5 in 23 games his rookie season.

I'll give you a list of active players who scored 25 goals in each of their first 7 seasons.

Jaromir Jagr
Ilya Kovalchuk
Alexander Ovechkin
