Nearly a month ago, Toronto Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke assured fans he wasn’t done seeking upgrades for his roster. Those upgrades have yet to materialize.
Sportsnet’s Mike Brophy wrote Leafs fans were impatiently waiting for Burke to add an experienced defenseman and a first-line center, suggesting the Leafs GM would have to get creative to address those needs before the start of the season.
Easier said than done.
It hasn’t been for lack of effort by Burke and his staff over the past month, but rather the lack of available talent in the trade and free agent markets.

Nothing new here - he did his best not to mention the fact that no quality UFA's are interested in playing for this Organization if/when they do become available.
Probably because he prefers not to look foolish by dabbling in something he can't offer proof for (that which you call "fact" is sorely lacking in any form of evidence, thus making its "factual" nature rather dubious, to say the least)?
It's great that Burke isn't done seeking upgrades to the roster but how is this different then what every other team in the league is trying to also accomplish?
This year should be viewed more as a development year with Burke needing to maximize value he gets for our secondary players in CMac, Connolly, Lombardi and potentially even Bozak well working in the next generation of secondary players in Kadri, Colborne, etc.
My god how irrelevant has the Hockey News become? That's what passes for an "article" on their website now? Let me summarize that article for everyone:
"Leafs trying to make moves but it's hard".
Basically that. What big name UFA's could've been signed? Parise and Suter were always a package deal and neither we're coming to Canada. We already have Semin, in the form of Phil. I would've like him but thats besides the point. He addressed getting bigger in the top 6 with the addition of JVR. He also added simply by subtracting Schenn and his liability on defense.
If we end up getting Luongo after the CBA talks, or even before that I think alot of people around here will change their tune...we'll have one of the top 10 goalies in the league. If not then, we'll just have to wait and see what we have with Reimer and Scrivs. I personally think we will be looking at a lottery if we go with those two though.
There is no need to panic as there is still plenty of time for Burke to trade Kadri, Colborne, Gardiner or whomever/whatever it takes to land that #1 C, #1 G and top pairing defender to improve the team for next season.
The only information missing at this point is when and who that might be that is on the way in and out.
Signature: There is no greater demonstration of Fan patience then to suggest to "Play the Kids " and be willing to accept the consequences of those actions..
Burke will make the moves but im not sure waiting is smart. By then it might be too late. The best option for center is Getz from anahiem. For goal its Lu and that is why Toronto hasnt done nothing in net so far. They do want him but not at Gillis's ridiculous price. Even after the cba Lu's long contract will have a impact in the long run so his value isnt what Gillis wants. Statsny is another option in center. Hiller along with Getz would fix both goal and center. Anyways we have to wait till Burke does something. I just hope it aint too late. I agree it has been the worst offseason in the history of the NHL. Slow Boring and just annoying. Oh and Bettman stop wasting your time with crap American cities and bring all those Oliver twist american teams that cant support thier teams North to Canada. Thats where they belong and the reason theres a cap.

Still plenty of time left for Burkie to make changes. Be patient.
Both him and Poulin said changes are coming, and I believe them.
I don't see us landing a #1 C between now and camp, Leafs are going to try JVR as their #1 C and if that works out we have our big #1 C. If that doesn't work out, they will continue to explore trade possibilities for a #1 C.
Poulin said the Leafs are not done with moves this off season in a recent interview. He said there is a lot of conversation going on right now and it will continue to go on. They still have a couple things they would like to do.
