I'm guessing we could have got Backstrom for $4M or less and Rolston for $3.5-4M if Risebrough had offered them contracts the previous summer or fall. Obviously if you wait until a guy is almost a free agent, it's not going to be cheap.

Unless his name is Josh Harding, who's been about the only Wild player (outside maybe Wes Walz) in history to actually show some loyalty to the club.

they were talking to Rolston before free agency. what some people were pissed about was not extending him the year before. screw that. we would have ended up with a $3.5m lump of crap on a long term contract....which is what the sticking point was about. length.
he wasn't worth $2million per year as it turned out.

He had some injuries but still put up more goals than Cullen has his first two years. I'd bet under the same coach and system he'd probably sniff 25 those first two years with the Wild rather than 15 (in 64 games) and 20.

I figured that was implied.

thank god..although like Jarick said Rolston would have probably been effective here for at least 2 more years. He had the keys to our team and PP where he did most of his damage.

Would have been one year of Lemaire, at least.

Remember that year the Wild missed the playoffs by two points. Entirely possible if Rolston played and had a good year, we make the playoffs, maybe Lemaire doesn't leave, and maybe Riser doesn't get fired!

Well if we made the playoffs, who knows how many Stanley Cups it would have cost us!

Geesus that's a terrifying thought.

Yes, I know it likely won't happen but would you do a Bulmer for Nino trade? 2 prospects struggling.

I'd poop my pants if we got Nino for Bulmer. That'd be lopsided.

You know, Garth Snow might think otherwise. Who knows!

I don't think Nino is struggling, just unhappy with his current situation. He's slightly under a PPG right now, ahead of our very own Jason Zucker.

Well, I think the Isles pulled a James Sheppard on him.

Put up Coyle and see if he offers every pick in the draft, too.

Yes I would trade Bulmer for Nino in a heartbeat. Isles would never do it though.

Unless Wang over-rides the GM's decision. Then I could definitely see it happening.

To be honest, my first thought was Phillips instead of Bulmer but then I remembered Nino was with the Isles.

I would have thought that too but I think when you bust with a skill guy you tend to trade for a high end grinder. Like the Kassian for Hodgson deal.

I like Phillips too much to trade him. He really needs to work on his foot speed. Just awful. I'd put him right behind Coyle if he had any speed.

I don't think that's something you can fix at this age though.

Andrew Brunette disagrees.
