Last year they kept him on the roster as a fourth liner/healthy scratch so his salary would push them over the floor. This year they aren't giving him a shot in the NHL. I'd like to know if there are bonuses in play.
If it turns out the Islanders are making roster decisions based on saving a bit of money...man that would be a TERRIBLE precedent.
Nick Palmieri reported with the Aeros on Tuesday in Milwaukee after initially refusing to report after he didn't make the Wild last week.
"Do you think Stephane Veilleux and Jake Dowell were excited to be put on waivers and be sent to Houston?" GM Chuck Fletcher said. "Things change quickly. That's what I said to all those guys. Best thing to do is get down, get playing and make sure your game is where you want it to be so when something happens, you give yourself the best chance to come back here."
Still, after last summer's contract dispute with the Wild, there's a very good chance Palmieri is on the trading block.
Find it a touch premature to label first year pros busts.
Patience is key.
Im sure Phoenix wished they had more with Turris, now playing 2nd line center for Ottawa. often labelled a guy that was physically immature with slow feet, he has matured nicely.
Or how about Vancouver with Cody Hogdson. Now 1st line center with Buffalo, while Vancouver is dying for a centermen. On Sportsnet just yesterday Doug Maclean spoke about his improved skating from last year and how an organization must have patience with these young skilled guys.
Nazim Kadri, a guy many said was a bust, refused to play in his own end--selfish, etc. He is doing okay, lol, just takes a little time.
All good young centermen, that took a few years to find their way in pro hockey. The defensive responsibilities of a center in pro are huge, patience is key. Just think some posters are WAY too quick to label any of our young guys busts.
Despite keeping him down in Bridgeport, Isles value Nino high and they will be looking for much more if they're ever going to trade him. Probably the asking price will be so high that Fletcher won't even sacrifice a thought for it.
I like Nino and the idea of having him here, but the need isn't that big.
my first choice would be trade FLA 4 bjugstad (not sure whats fair). i think nino (i call him neo) will be less expensive if we try and pick him up next yr. (see peter mueller). if i were the wild gm i would try & trade cullen to WPG for a pick or a D prospect to open a roster spot for coyle or zucker. next try n trade pmb to OTT or MTL for anything to open up a 2nd roster spot. then our prospects can prove their worth! just my one cent.
