There are reasons to trade quickly, reasons to hold off. 12 minutes of NHL ice time isn't enough to pencil in a guy as the replacement for a top six forward.

Given this season, I'd hold off on any more trades. Call ups are fine.
Apparently Nonis is listening offers, price being a key defenseman / good forward + high draft pick. Darren Dreger has confirmed it. Like I said, MIN should be all over this. Especially if Kessel is willing to re-sign and why wouldn't he.

Heatley + 1st 2014 (probably not enough)
for
Phil Kessel
That would not even come close to landing this guy. And no one wants Heatley...
Kessel is also injury prone, and we already have enough of that crap to deal with.
Not that I'm against a true goal scorer...at all....I dream about our team have just 1 in my sleep....
The cost of acquiring Kessel would hamstring us too much to make it worthwhile. We really need our young guys to step up and fulfill the roles they are meant to play. Losing that would just create more problems for us.

Uh, he's played 82 games each of the last 2 years and has never played less than 70...
My feeling is that Kessel doesn't fit the mold of player that Fletcher wants on the roster....Can be quite moody, a bit of a prima-donna and just doesn't seem to have that winner's mentality. Just my opinion.

Havlat 2.0
Where do you get prima-donna from? Everyone I've ever heard talk about dealing with him says he's just shy and would just as soon play the game and nothing else.

He most definitely has that reputation and it goes back to his days as a Gopher. Wasn't the greatest teammate.....
He arrived in the National Hockey League described as brash, a prima donna and self-focused. He was an early contender to be selected first overall in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, but questions about his character and work ethic dropped him to fifth overall, where the Boston Bruins were happy to take the former Minnesota Golden Gopher.

Well...I was under the impression he has had injury issues, I might have been wrong on that.
I do know the cost to attain him will be very high. His contract is going to be high as well.
At the very least, I would make a play at Getzlaf or Perry this summer before I would even consider Kessel. They at least will just go for the price of their contract, and not a number of extra resources as well, a 1st rounder would just be the beginning.
In addition, this is a very deep draft year. Losing out on the opportunity to add to our prospect pool at this point does not sit well wiht me. We have dones such a good job, we need to continue that, not stunt it.
I'd take a 25 year old, 35+ goal scoring "prima-donna" right now.
I'm not saying that I wouldn't like to have a talent like him on the right side of Koivu and Parise...just saying that Fletcher and Co. seem to be placing an extra emphasis on character since the failed experiment with Marty Havlat.
