Chicago with Pirri, MacNeil(1st rounder-2011) and Danult(1st rounder 2011) have good young centermen in the pipeline..so probably not a great fit.
I do think we could use a solid 88-90 born Dman.
St Louis for example have good scoring wingers coming, Tarasenko-Rattie-Jaskin-Schwartz and are short down the middle and could use a good young playmaking type centermen of which we have ---
I would consider this, but I doubt Anaheim agrees. Vatanen puts up bundles of points, and he could turn into something special. Also, Anaheim fans would probably be hesitant to move another D-prospect due to the Schultz fiasco.
Before trading a guy like Phillips away, I would wait to see what his potential is. I think he could be a guy that could play very well if he had good linemates, and I dont think he has great linemates/ playing time in Houston so far. As of late I'm pretty sure he has put up a few points.

Exactly. Besides, now's not the time to trade him anyway, as his value would be really low.

This is my belief too. I'm not saying never trade away any of our prospects, but this is the first year the majority of them turned pro, I want to see what they can do at the NHL level first.
Trading Phillips now would be selling low unless you think he's just going to get worse. I'm not sure he ever figures it out but probably not a good time to make the move.
Phillips is trending upwards playing limited minutes on the 4th line with points in 3 of last 4, be interesting what he could do if he gets the time of minutes or plays with the caliber of player some do.
Always been a big Zucker, Larsson, Phillips fan, patience with young kids is the key, IMO.
Personally, I think outside of Granlund, one full year of AHL at least is what they need.
In the new CBA, the cap will be reduced, just not sure to what amount down from the 72 million it currently sits at. Minny will in all likelihood, seeing where they are at the 72 million now, look to move a few experienced/expensive salarys type guys and look for the young guys on an ELC ( $832,000 ish) to step in). This is where the depth of our organization will pay dividends.
I think Phillips is still two years away and still not sure he's more than a third line winger who can play on the PP. We'll see. I'm not very high on him though.
I just don't know who he beats out to become a contributor to the NHL team. Granlund, Coyle, Zucker and Larsson are already ahead of him, not to mention a guy like Lucia who would probably adapt to a 3rd line roll better. Plus we're going to be drafting guys every year. I think he gets replaced awfully quickly.

You're making the assumption that everyone pans out. That's not likely to be the case. On top of that, Larsson doesn't have much of a shot to ever be better than a third liner at the NHL level. Phillips has the unique ability to play with talent. If he ends up successful, he'll have a strong shot at playing on a top line.

Yeah, probably a big assumption, but I think most all of us consider Granlund and Coyle safe bets (Coyle slightly less, but he gets good marks from NHL people). So it's really Phillips vs. Zucker vs. Larsson.

Just for conversation sakes--dont get me wrong I like Charlie Coyle alot as well but question why he seems to get a free pass , while a kid like Phillips appears to take a bit of a hit here.
CC has played 2 more games, played top minutes, top PP and with Granny/Zucker/Larson the entire time, basically given every opportunity for success and hasnt got a point in 3 weeks--3 weeks.
Phillips on the other hand, plays 4th line minutes, sometimes 6-8 shifts a game with guys with limited offensive ability and has in total only 3 less points then Charlie.
What would Phillips have for number should he have played the minutes CC has and with the guys he has.
Just sayin the contrast from 1 being a sure bet, top line A + prospect to the other being questioned as much as he is , seems a bit too wide, IMO.
Actually the Coyle mention is huge. People are criticizing Phillips' 8 points in 18 games, but ceaselessly praising Coyle's 11 points in 20 games. In fact, Coyle hasn't scored a goal since Larsson has been added to his line. The last goal he scored was off a Phillips setup.
