Yeah, even when he and Scheif played with one another briefly Huberdeau was put on LW.

He often plays LW in juniors as well and that's likely where his future is at the next level.

I just cant bring myself to cheer for Leipsic. He's a little *******.

Sutter being on this team confuses me. I thought he refused to play for Team Canada?

For those wondering (if you are wondering)

TSN 1290 will be covering (at least) the first two games in Russia next thursday and friday.
I heard a commercial about it yesterday on my drive home from work.

So I am guessing they will also have it online at www.tsn1290.ca

Lukas Sutter has dual-citizenship and grew up always participating for Team USA at international competitions. In June he released a statement in which he thanked US Hockey for the opportunity and announced he would attend the selection camp for Team Canada.

I do not know of any situation where he refused to play for Team Canada. However, he may declined an invite when he was younger. At some point (I think it's year before their draft year) , if a player participates in an IIHF international competition for one country he can only play for that one country in the future. One of the rules. Perhaps he declined an invite to one of these events in order to preserve his eligibility for either Canada or the US.

Given that he is a late-birthday from 1993, this is his only shot at playing for Canada at the WJCs. I expect him to make the team and be part of the shutdown forward line with Lessio and Wilson.

Tintin's Ghost it looks like you are based out of my old home town (Saskatoon)? Were you able to catch any Blades games last year and of so what can you tell us about Sutter? Is he a fan favorite type? Seems like he is a bit more in your face than his cousin Brandon?

I'm sharing season tickets with two other buddies to get in on the Memorial Cup games so I'll be at a fair number of games. I'll gladly post some updates on Sutter throughout the year. I'm no scout, though.

For the best updates I highly recommend reading the Prospects thread on the main boards, specifically any postings on the WHL by a guy who goes by the handle Renegade Stylings. That guy knows his stuff. Plus he works for the Blades organization and has the inside track on a lot of prospect information. He posted that Sutter was playing for Team Canada before Hockey Canada even announced it. That guy is very reliable.

Curious about what you mean by this. I remember Leipsic as a very talented but very small kid, who was friends with my son. He is still small, so to make it to the next level you often have to be not only immensely talented, but a bit of a s*** disturber. Is there something else you were referring to?

It was cheap shot after cheap shot after cheap shot in the WHL finals. Multiple times he made blatant attempts to injure guys like Lazar, St Croix, Samuelsson, et all.

Bit of a baby too. Would whine every time he got a penalty.

That's generally a good drinking game for any hockey player, if you're in the mood to get plastered.

This is a funny video of an interview with Subban and Rielly about a foot race in camp, but the third guy (in the race clip) is our boy Scheif and it looks like he is putting on the right kind of weight this off season.....on top of that Mark can pick them up and put them down in the 100 meter dash.

ooo dreamy hahaha

Still tad skinny. I'm an inch shorter and about the same weight/fat% and it seems and people still call me lean... but definately a step in the right direction

Yea he is 15 pounds heavier than last year at this time (according to Mark) and although he is still lean"ish" he is filling out and looks allot more athletic now. I don't think his weight will be an issue this season but he will need to be stronger on his skates.

Wow, 2 undrafted players on Canada, but 20 undrafted players on Russia. I hope the Russian goalie plays well and keeps the games close enough to be interesting at least.

I wouldn't use that as an indication of the talent levels; WJC were like that too and we know how that went...

A lot of Russians go undrafted for multiple reasons:
Prefer KHL
Not good enough
Anti-Russian biasism (aka the Rudalov factor)
ETC

Early game but I've got the PVR set.

I'm curious to see how Lukas does as I haven't seen much of him.
He's a Sutter so I have expectations.

I don't know if they have been posted, or even decided, but someone posted that these were the lines from an August 3rd practice (so take it with a huge grain of salt):

Huberdeau Strome Rattie
Di Giuseppe Scheifele Shinkaruk
Roy Jenner Hudon
Leipsic Sutter Wilson
Lessio Monahan Danault

Murray Harrington
Ouellet Hamilton
Reinhart Ceci
Rielly Dumba
Pelech Murphy

Thanks, Huff.

Interesting to see if Scheifele plays with Shinkaruk and they have chemistry. If THN is right and we finish 14th in East, maybe we can pick him in the draft as future linemates.
