Yea Hank is THE KING. Still our best player imo, but as for the skaters... who do you think our best player is today?

I believe its Nash. He has a great shot, explosive and isn't afraid to get physical.

Can any one tell me how his defensive is?

Talk about flavor of the month. Nash better than Gaborik is ridiculous.

While that's a ridiculous statement, there should be at least another 3 players in this poll.

Easily McDonagh. He is our best defenseman since Leetch and I think he has a shot to be one of our best defensemen all time. So flawless and the best skating d-man I've seen with the Rangers.

It will be really interesting to watch how people's opinions on Nash change (or don't change) after watching him night in and night out.

For my money I think he is the most talented overall skater we have. Gaborik can do some things really well (much better than Nash) but Nash has such a wider register.

I am just glad at the end of the day we have all of these guys so this debate means little at the end of the day. The Rangers when healthy are turning into a matchup nightmare.

EDIT - McDonagh, yea should definitely be in the running.

You may feel otherwise after seeing Nash every game. Gaborik is a better goal scorer. I would take Nash over him in every other phase, and Nash stays far healthier.

1.McDonagh
2.Richards
3.Gaborik
4.Nash

And then there's a massive drop off. That's the clear top 4 imo.

Not willing to crown McD until he repeats this season's level of play.

Thus, I go Staal.

Amazing how things have changed, about a year ago Staal would have been in consideration and only one person has mentioned him so far.

Not sure if he would be considered our best player other than Lundqvist at this juncture, but I think some people are selling Staal short. With a full training camp under his belt, he may be as good as McDonagh this upcoming season.

when this happened...i was looking for a knife to slit my wrists...that's how important MCD is to this team. Gaborik, Nash, Cally, Staal, Girardi, they all belong in the conversation...but McDonagh, to me, is an absolute stud. When he becomes an RFA next year, im looking to lock his ass up to a lifetime contract. 15 years or somethign crazy like that. no desire whatsoever to see him in any jersey other than Rangers blue.

Am i the only one with an attention span longer than one season?

Staal>McD until a concusion free season proves otherwise

does everyone forget the "Is staal the best d-man in the game?" conversations we had before this last season?

McDonagh without a doubt for me. Kid is absolutely amazing. Shuts down top players and can produce 30 points without PP time.

And yes, it still applies. Staal is a tremendous defenseman. He was incredible in the post season. Saying McDonagh is better doesn't mean that Staals game has slipped at all. Saying McDonagh is better is just saying that...he's eclipsed Staal. McDonaghs got better offense, is a better skater, and is as good defensively as Staal. Staal is an elite defenseman. An all-star. a #1 defenseman on most teams in the NHL. Then again, so is Dan Girardi, and so is Ryan McDonagh. We have a frikkin amazing situation here with 3 #1 defenseman on this team. IMHO McD is the best of them. Elite in his own zone, and scored more even strength points in than Shea Weber.

Went with McDonagh.

McDonagh slightly over Staal for his game breaking skating ability. Staal is more physical. If McDonagh/Girardi can perform at the same level this season and Staal can continue his play from the playoffs you would be looking at 3 #1 defensemen on this team. Combine that with the return of a healthy Michael Sauer, this team could be devastatingly good.
