Skate Fenders Pro vs Shotblocker XT Pro

I fractured my ankle in the beginning of this summer. Went through surgery and have been walking on crutches the whole summer. After six weeks with a plastered leg I've now gotten a rehab program for building up my mobility and strength again.

Anyway to prevent something like this happens again I'm going to use one of the products above. I used the Skate Fenders last season, and they worked great. Except for that the straps sucked big time. They weren't the Pro ones by the way.

I have a good feeling about the shotblockers though, they're custom molded to any skate, thin, light etc.

The shotblockers cost 190 canadian(?) dollars.

The skatefenders cost 80 US dollars.

What do you think? I really want to play without breaking my foot again, so paying for the shotblockers isn't a problem. But at the same time, if the skatefenders are as good ill go with them.

Appreciate any help, thanks.

I have the skate fenders, never tried the shotblockers. They are awesome. You dont even feel them when skating. The reason I would choose "fenders" over the shotblockers is because the fenders cover the laces.

The most painful shots I have taken to the foot (pre-skate fenders) were to the top of the foot on the laces. There is little to no padding there and hurts like hell. I recently took a slap shot off the top of my foot while wearing the skate fenders. I felt the impact but it didn't hurt and almost scored a goal off of it LOL.

Also FYI, I didn't like how the fenders looked so I bought Krylon Fusion Spray Paint from wal-mart in black and spray painted them. When there were clear (mine were actually transparent blue as I got their earlier model) people would notice them more. No real chirping, most people were just interested in how well they work. Now that they are black they blend in with my skates.

They have taken a pretty good beating and are still working with no cracks or damage

Awesome product and great customer support. They recently sent me new straps for no charge express mail because I had a game coming up soon.

I had my foot broke also, bought the pro version of the skate fenders. First game I played with them, I took a slapper to the foot from the point. I was tying my man up in front and got hit right on the foot where it transitions from the side to the top of the skate. (about the 4th or 5th eyelet from the toe. the shot hit the ceilng of the rink off the richoet. its about 30'. never even felt it. It felt like getting hit in the shin pad, you know you took a shot but dont feel it. lots of people seem interested in them. I get lots of questions, once in a while I'll get a "plan on blocking a lot of shots tonight?" when I tell them my foot had been broken from a shot, they usually ask " do they work". I cant say about the other ones, but the pro fenders work great.

I should really look into these things. I forget to think about what kind of bad will happen if I step in front of shots, I just do it. Took a full on slapper on the laces last season, from the guy with the heaviest slapshot in our league. Feels good.

Try these to replace the straps for the fenders
They work a wonder because you can cinch them bback on themselves nice and tight-ah!
They wear down quickly (about 6-8) months but are cheap and most sports stores carry something similar.
