OF NOTE — A contract structure for coveted unrestricted free agent Shane Doan wasn’t discussed Tuesday at a dinner to introduce the winger to the Canucks organization, according to Gilman who signed Doan to his first NHL contract. “I know him but he had not met Mike [Gillis] or Francesco [Aquilini], so we spent some time getting to know each other and letting him get familiar with our organization and discuss where he would fit. It was an opportunity for him to learn about us and for us to get an understanding of what he’s about and what he’s looking for.”

I wonder if Gillis knows that Tsawwassen gets about three times as much sunshine as Vancouver. Most people that live in the lower mainland have no clue that it's significantly drier out there.

Out of curiosity, did the Coyotes want to re-sign Whitney? Did he leave because of the uncertainty surrounding the org.?

I think he left because Dallas offered a little extra term.

Offering a 2 year contract to someone in his 40's is a lot more risky than a 4 year contract to someone in his mid-30's.

Interesting stuff. Thanks for posting.

Nice to hear Doan is more about Lord Stanley than the Benjamins.

I don't want to get my hopes too high, but the thought of Doan wearing the Orca this season is pretty darn exciting.

If Doan doesn't care about money and just wants to win, then I say we offer him a 4 year deal (so he can have his term) at $600k/year. Hell...let's throw in an extra year for him just in case he might want to play another 5.

All right Gillis, new program to implement stat: hire some ecologists. Any advantage possible.

This is all sounding very promising, but I'm not going to get my hopes up until Phoenix is disbanded and burned to the ground.

We should send them a wooden horse to get the job done overnight.

Russians/Soviets have been manipulating weather forever making sure the Victory Day parade is dry.

Doan's wife was at the meeting as well? Doesn't get any more serious than that.

I think Schultz and Weber were enough damage for one summer to my already fragile Canucks beating heart. Not going to get excited for this. His wife being there is a good thing though.

Doan having his wife there is huge, We all know it's the wife who has the final say, Even for sports players.

Look at Pronger, his wife wanted out of Edmonton so bad that he had to go ask to be traded.

So they can model predator-prey relationships in terms of urban pests in Glendale vs Tsawassen?

Lol sorry to nitpick but I think you're looking for the word meteorologist or more broadly, environmental scientist.
