Moreno would be smarter than we think as he probably wouldn't purchase a hockey team in southern California because there is no profit in it.
The Angels just landed a huge TV deal that makes Pujols' contract look small. Pujols will earn $240 million USD for 10 years. The new TV deal with Fox Sports is worth $3 billion USD for 20 years. The Ducks may need to contact Arte in the department of marketing and increasing popularity, but it's pretty hard to increase those areas when we're a small market to begin with. The only positive money maker for the Ducks is to make the playoffs consistently to generate more revenue for the organization.
I was opposed to Arte re-naming the Anaheim Angels, but his sales savvy says to gain more notoriety you have to change the team name to a global name that could be recognizable. By associating the Angels to Los Angeles makes the Angels more identifiable with the latin background market to sell via radio, etc... And Arte knows that winning brings along with it a spending culture. So he can fire a GM if he wanted to in order to bring a winning culture, which he did. But having that extra money by way of the TV deal, Moreno can take on Pujols and Wilson's contracts while absorbing terrible deals of Bobby Abreu and Vernon Wells.
