Okay...guess...who's going to win our first gold? Or at least, the first to win something other than bronze?

  • Men's rowing eight
  • Brent Hayden in the 100m freestyle
You should also add women's 4x200m relay. (Swimming)

They came 3rd place in the qualifying. The finals are at 4PM ET.

Updated medal hopefuls for August 1st:
  • Despatie and Reuben Ross in the synchronised 3m. - Finished 6th. Looks like getting scalped by a diving board is not good for Olympic preperation.
  • Clara Hughes in the time trial - Finished 5th
  • Ryder in the time trial, a long shot - Finished 28th
  • Men's rowing eight - Silver medal
  • Brent Hayden in the 100m freestyle
  • Women in the 4*200m freestyle

Despatie and Ross are fine with 6th place given they've trained synchro maybe 10 times since Alex's return from head injury #olympics

Nice to see the Men's eight bounce back from their terrible showing on Day 1 and win the Silver medal.

The badminton scandal continues to work in our favour - after the four pairs were disqualified, we went to the quarter finals - and just beat Australia, so move on to the semis.

So thrilled to see Hayden finally grab that elusive medal. You'd be hard-pressed to find an athlete more deserving than him.

He was so close to winning that silver too! Awesome performance by him under a lot of pressure (the Gatorade ad notwithstanding, haha). Canada won't be shut out in the water!

Cheer leading? I really hope you're not mocking them for cheering on Canada.

I know you wish you were American instead...leave this thread for people who want to cheer for Canada.

That would be up there with the Aussie who won the gold medal in speed skating because all the other competitors crashed into a wall.

Jays, what are our best medal bets for the rest of the week.

We have a shot at a medal of some type in the men's doubles badminton event with the Chinese expulsions and the surprise win over Australia. To get a medal in this event would have been a borderline miracle, but it's now possible.

Tomorrow we've got a great shot at a gold or silver in the women's eight-man rowing event. Either would be nice, although the girls are good enough to get gold.

Martha McCabe in the women's 200m breast-stroke has an outside shot at the podium at the aquatic centre, also taking place tomorrow.

On Friday Dylan Armstrong is the reigning Commonwealth and Pan American Games champion in shot put. He finished second at the Worlds last year too, so it wouldn't be shocking to see him outright win the event. He finished fourth by one cm in Beijing but has been training incredibly hard since that heart-break.

The men's rowing pair on the same day has a good shot at a medal, although they weren't that impressive in qualifying. I'm hoping that they were just saving their gas for the eventual final because they are talented enough to grab a medal. It's hard to predict with some of the skulls events though.

Also on Friday we have Jason Burnett, the reigning Olympic silver medalist, in the trampoline gymnastics event. The Chinese are almost Godly in this event so we should be targeting another silver, but who knows. I think that Karen Cockburn goes the next day in the women's event to defend her silver, so there are two silver hopefuls right there.

Congrats to Hayden! Definitely deserved the medal.

Canada is in the quarterfinals for soccer, very happy with what they've done so far. Unfortunately, they play against Great Britian, but either way I'm proud of what they've accomplished.

Same with basketball. Canada is in every single game, and is playing some good basketball against some of the top teams. Lost 60-64 to France, just this morning. (France is 1st in the division)

We did great in rowing today, and its nice to hear we have a good shot at the trampoline.

I heard about Dylan Armstrong. I think he is the best or was the best at the most recent golden league?
