Toronto Maple Leafs - 4 Minor Trade Makeover [Chi/Nyi/Phx/Sjs]
DISREGARDING THE KOMISAREK DUMP, the rest of the trades seem pretty reasonable. I mean, on any given day this thread will have 5+ Toronto proposals on the front page and they're usually moving Gardiner or Lupul or whatever, but these actually make sense.
The only one I'm unsure of is the Chicago trade as Burke has stated that Holzer is an NHL ready defenseman and Bozak is getting better and better, plus he's Kessel's closest friend so while trading him away might not affect the lineup per say, it might have a negative effect on Kessel.
I also haven't seen alot of Hjalmarsson lately, is he a second pairing defenseman?

Reason: Removed pointless flaming
Why can't Leafs fans comprehend that the Islanders do NOT want Komisarek? Garth also just signed Carkner, who's probably going to be better and even if he's not he's cheaper.
Stop trying to dump him on us.
EDIT: And the idea has been tossed around for a while because Leafs fans think he'd be a good fit for us. He's not.
I completely understand speaking for what you personally want, but I always have to laugh when somebody makes specific, unfounded claims about what an NHL team wants. Do you have a source on that one?
That's the best offer we've gotten, unless somebody else wants to make a better offer keeping in mind we're either looking for a top-6 or two 2nd/3rd line tweeners and not futures.
Damn... Invest in a phone. It'll ring with far better offers
I read through the most recent trade proposals on HFB involving the leafs and found four small trades, no big names, no blockblusters, no 3-way deals, no quality for quantity just small time, hockey trades, which it seems a good chunk of posters on here are okay with from both fan bases.
Reasoning:Lombardi took big strides in his recovery last season and began playing well as a depth scorer, but from top six depth on wing in Toronto [Kessel/Lupul/MacArthur/Kulemin/Kadri/Frattin], and Toronto not willing to play an offensive 3rd line, Lombardi might have a hard time fitting in next season.
Chipchura just resigned for cheap and is an effective bottom six winger, something the Yotes have a fair amount of.
Yotes have ridiculous cap space, so can afford to use it to upgrade to get some needed scoring depth.
Trade B
Mike Komisarek
Conditional 7th Round Pick
Inspired by: Multiple threads, this idea has been tossed around for awhile
Reasoning: Komisarek is over paid, is a serviceable 5th d-man right now, who has crumbled in the Toronto spot light. Komisarek played well in MTL in space where he had less expectation and was paired with a smart puck mover.
Isles need to get to the cap floor, Komisarek is a Long Island boy, the NYI would benefit from some help on D, and Komisarek can play with a few different mobile D-men on the Island.
Reasoning: A lot of talk around these two players being swapped. Sharks add a playmaking winger, Leafs add a grittier one.
Trade D
Tyler Bozak
Korbinian Holzer
Niklas Hjarmalsson
Inspired by: Lost the thread, but someone mentioned if the Leafs want Hammer they did to be willing to give up Bozak and Holzer which they wouldn't be willing to do. But I think they would be. Hawks need a C, get one. Holzer fills in for Hammer, Hammer steps into leafs top 4.
Final: In the end, not a drastic change. Besides the Komi dump we have...
In....
Clowe, Chipchura, Hjarmalsson
Out...
Bozak, Holzer, Lombardi, MacArthur
Other teams address some important needs, such as depth scoring, a second line C, more points down the wing. While the leafs address one major issue for there club, a lack of size.
The only real bad deal is the Komi. You would have to add a lower pick going to the Islanders just to get them to take on Komi's contract.
Komi + 3rd for Islanders 7th and a minor league player might get them to bit.
Not a chance.Rather keep Kabs.At least Kabs puts up points.Komi is completely useless.
I agree, Kaberle is worth more (hence the + on the Komisarek side of the deal), but I do think they might benefit their maiden teams. Plus, we (Habs) do need to get some defensive size, as our backend is a bit lacking in that department.
Maybe playing Komisarek with Markov for some reasonable time on the 2nd PK unit (since Markov should most certainly be paired with Emelin at ES and Subban on the PP) might give them a chance to rekindle some chemistry again and perhaps help Mike find his game? Kabs would probably make Toronto's 10th-ranked PP even better as a 2nd-unit QB.

No, but we do have the last 5 yrs of seeing Snow/Wang fill their roster with bargains, trying to stretch their payroll.
Only Leaf fans, think $3.5m is not a big deal for a 3rd pairing defenseman.
I'd do everyone except the Chicago deal. Just personal preference, but Bozak is the only guy with chemistry with our top two wingers and Holzer seems ready to make the jump next year, could be a shutdown dman that we need and I dont see a point in shipping him off.
Good job OP, i think all the trades are reasonably fair, and take team needs into account. Obviously some fans wont like it but who knows what the GM's would actually think. We can just speculate
Would rather just keep Komi as a bottom pairing D man for us if that is the return we are going to get for him. We don't need the cap space. Now if we traded him for that and then signed someone like Hannan, then I would be fine with that.
He might flourish under Carlyle's physical, defensive style. It is more suited to his game then Wilson's style. I want to see how he does. He also gives us an insurance policy in case Holzer isn't ready for full time NHL duty yet.

I think we could use the cap space and make some bigger moves in the next few weeks rather then just deciding whats more important ... A goalie, or a big C.
Id be cool with those but thats a *** busy offseason! Id persoanlly like to deal clowe and pavelski but we definatly don't have what their looking for. Maybe mac lupul gunnar does it need picks like a first? gtfo I know.
Don't tell me I shouldn't respond on a message board when it's about hockey and my favorite hockey team. I signed up to talk about hockey, and that's what I plan on doing.
I wouldn't do that. I like Clowe much more than MacArthur. I'd do it for Kulemin and a 3rd.
I wouldn't either. I don't think value is bad, but I'm one of the few Leaf fans that think Clowe would be a terrible fit on the team. Considering our PK is awful (he gets a ton of penalties and it wouldn't do us much good), Clowe isn't the fastest skater, and he's not exactly Mr. Iron Man, I just don't think it's a good fit.
Specifically the skating. Talk all you want about Carlyle and his system, but the players he currently has are players that excel at skating. A good coach doesn't come in to make those players fit his past systems, he finds a system that makes sure those players excel.
Clowe would fit well in the system Carlyle had in Anaheim, he won't fit well in the system Toronto has (and likely will have) now.
Pretty good deals imo. The only problem is your banking on JVR being able to stick at center, if he cant theres a real gap . We wouldn't have a Bozak to stick in on the first.
I'd switch Franson for Holzer in the Hammer trade simply because Liles-Franson gives us a pairing with two offensive d-men. Might make it more enticing for the Hawks too, since Franson's proven much more.
Kind of want to do the Frattin for Bernier trade too. Giving us:
