Voted Joseph Labate due to his size/skill combo. Hopefully he has a breakout year this year.

I like big Mallet and Mr Freeze, but I have to go with Labate Blue here, he had a good rookie year in college, and his skillset seems to give him fairly legit 2nd line upside. I think he'll need to step it up quite a bit next year if he is to continue on his promising path.

Voted Sauve though gave LaBate a serious consideration.

Can't say I know much about any of these guys, so I'm going with Mallet, simply because he was the higher pick. Seriously considered LaBate as well (are they the same age?), but whoever loses this one, will be voted next.

Interesting that Sauve and Sweatt, some of the few prospects that have played in the NHL, are not getting picked.

I guess the sexy new guys are more impressive to some fans, though.

I picked Sweatt.

Labate and Mallet are interesting... but I have no idea why people would take Friesen over Sweatt... Friesen might max out as a 3rd line center and Sweatt has already taken a short stint on 3rd line wing...

Sweatt hasn't been improving much at all since being signed. He basically looks like another Raymond with even lower skill at this point and we all know how highly 'nucks fan value Raymond. Sauve will be my next pick but big skill center right now seems to hold more value over defensive dman.

New and sexy sometimes also means higher potential. When rating a prospect you should rank on ceilings and potential to hit that ceiling.

I think Labate and Sauve both have a higher ceilings, and a higher potential to reach that ceiling. Sweatt is a good third line prospect, and will play in the NHL within the next two years for someone but Labate has top 6 potential and Sauve top 4.

Voted Labate.

Labate for me again. I think Mallet or Price could be contenders for the next vote. Who knows, maybe even Tommernes.

I'd say Yann Sauve has the better chance to play & grow into a first but I think Labate has a higher ceiling.

For me it's either Labate or Mallet and I'll give the edge to Labate as I see more top 6 potential with him than with Mallet although Mallet could change that if he continues his rate of progression.

As for Sweatt, I just don't see the potential.

He has Raymond's speed & ability to get knocked off the puck easily, but doesn't have his hands or defensive ability. Basically he just seems to be an AHL player at this point, I don't see him being an NHL regular, he might get a game or 2 in an emergency but thats about it imo.

Why have two 4th rounders from 2010 and 2011 been beating out 2012's 2nd rounder? Was this year's draft that shallow, was our drafting considered poor this year, or are we seeing an over-valuing of the so called NHL-ready factor again?

You do realize that players abilities aren't always tied to their draft ranking right? Maybe we had some steals in the later rounds

I think Friesen is much better than his draft pick #

People just don't know that much about Mallet yet. After a year with the Wolves, we'll get a much better picture of what he can do. He'll probably rise, I'm guessing.

Simple... the first was someone who would've been a 2nd rounder if he didn't say he was going to college for 4 years. Thats why he dropped. The other had an outstanding year of development. Finally the 2012 2nd rounder was picked off the board a bit. He was ranked ~100th (mid 3rd round). Of course 'nucks staff seem to have him ranked higher and he does have a lot of upside. Next year, he could go much higher in the votes depending on how the year goes (just like Lebate would've been a lot lower if the vote was last year vs this year).
