As usual, Finns will pay attention to the Javelin, though not with high hopes. Men's and women's 100 m and 200 m obvious big events.

How's the 100m shaping up? It's basically Bolt vs. Blake for gold and then Gatlin, Gay, Powell and Bledman battling for bronze, right? It's interesting that Bledman is so much younger than those other 3.

And what about the women? I know nothing about their 100m.

Looking forward to the 100 and 200 and whether Bolt can repeat or if that other Jamaican will beat him.

I can't believe Gatlin is in this, he's so old. I doubt he even makes the finals.

First day underway!

Tremendous atmosphere during the opening heats. Felix Sanchez praised it as the best he's ever experienced in an interview for Finnish tv moments ago. Jessica Ennis opening the Heptathlon in fine style probably helped.

Raining heavily now in London. High jumpers in heptathlon won't like it.

And the sun came out again.

Ennis comfortably clears 180 on her second attempt, already had two clearances from two previous heights.

The 110m hurdles is not getting enough love. The Liu-Robles-Oliver battle could quite possibly be the greatest race of all time.

Johnson-Thompson clears 189, Ennis does not and her best stays at 186. Crowd is absolutely phenomenal and it's only opening day.

Psyched for all the Oregon athletes competing (especially Galen Rupp, Nick Symmonds, and Ashton Eaton), and to see Bolt vs. Blake in the 100m and 200m.

Ennis leads heptathlon after two events with 2249 points, Hyleas Fountain second 2225 points. By the way, Ennis set a British record in the 100 meter hurdles with her time of 12,54 which is 3rd best time in the entire event this season. It is also the fastest time in the history of heptathlon. She's scheduled to compete in that event as well.
