it's impressive considering how difficult the division has been and not getting expected production from pretty much anyone they expected production from.

you can not like war, i'm just using it as a quick stat here, david ortiz leads the team in war with 2.9. the next closest hitter is adrian gonzalez who is tied with mike aviles with 1.9. pitching-wise only beckett and lester are over 2 wins (which is just what an average starter in mlb should be). they've missed production from ellsbury, gonzalez, pedroia, youkilis, beckett, lester, etc. and are still in the position they're in.

Even without expected production, I can't call being under .500 impressive. If they were 10 games over, then i'd buy it.

How is Buchholtz overated the other year he had a era of 2 for the whole season or close to it, he was pitching great until his back injury last year and im willing to bet he was still feeling the effects of his back in the begining of the year and now look his last 10 starts ace like face it Buchholtz is the real deal the guy who threw a no-no back when they meant somthing 4-5 years ago.

Thats why I say they only need two decent starters next year if Lester turns back into his old self you will have 2 aces and a progressing Dubront If Lester was himself this year we would have atleast 6 more wins.

Also if we never started bard thats probly another win or a bunch becuase we ruined him in the rotation I bet he would have looked awsome setting up Aceves or Bailey and his replacement in the rotation couldn't have been worse than him

So no bard in first couple months (in pen not starting) and a reformed Lester and were 3 games out of the Division .

If we get a a decent four guy for the rotation or heck even throw Morales in thier I think were fine for next year.

You know it's awesome when Lenny Clarke is involved and he doesn't annoy you.

I still fail to see what was so bad about Bobby V's comments? Has the pansification of the organization gone all the way to the prospects? Yikes.

If it is Lackey, well the Sox are 100% to blame. I thought they sent him off the Tommy John land so he would be away from the team for a year? Yea he sucked as a pitcher but he also sucked in the club house, Keeping him around only removes part of the problem.

Daniel Bard temporarily ruined himself. And it's up to him to get it back. If not, he'll just confirm what a lot of people have said about him--that he's soft/a headcase.

But didn't people complain when Ellsbury was away from the team during the 2010 season...

People also didn't rejoice when Elsbury got injured and had to be out for the season.

Ellsbury was a universally liked player until the smear campaign started after some rumblings started coming out of the front office. It seems that someone wasn't happy about Ellsbury wanting a second opinion from someone unaffiliated with the Red Sox organization and from what we've learned since then, who could blame him?

Can a contract be voided if it is found out a player is using drugs (not steroids)?

In baseball, probably not. Hell I don't think any of the sports would let you. Team can put said player on a suspended/whatever list and not have to pay them though.

I would seriously consider trading Ellsbury in the offseason. But that would require management to actually have a pulse on how Ellsbury feels about staying here long-term.

I love that Lackey is the snitch.

Everytime I think I can't hate him more he surprises me.

This season is turning from tragic to hllarious.

Awesome news if its lackey people will realize hes the one to pay someone to get rid of instead of Beckett!

I really don't think your that bad off trotting out a couple Morales/Cook guys next year. I trust Cherington to get a decent couple starters under the radar. Dump Lackey and let Dice K go and I think thats enough cleansing. Buchholz you can either sell high to land a big name you covet or bring him back as the #3.

Please let Lackey never pitch here again I seriously hate that man.

Again, nobody is saying they want Lackey over Beckett. What you can't seem to admit is that John Lackey has absolutely no value--to any team. He has less value than Josh Beckett does. If you're asking me or any Red Sox fan who they would rather have, Beckett or Lackey...I'd be stunned if anyone said John Lackey.

I might be ok with Morales, but not Cook. Look at his splits against lefties and righties. Left handed hitters are killing him. He can't strike anybody out either. Seems like a decent guy and solid teammate--and I appreciate what he's done for them this year, but I do not want to see him every five days next year. If anything, I wonder if he'd be able to be a righty out of the pen.

And right now, Buchholz is their #1.

guys out of the pen have to be able to get strikeouts. cook is having a historic season w/r/t strikeouts (in a bad way). he's an emergency starter at best.

Well, I don't think he'd be a one inning setup guy. He'd be a specialist. That being said, they probably don't need him out of the bullpen to begin with.

they don't.

all i'm saying is that his role is basically extinct in today's game. back in the day of less guys in the bullpen, you'd have a mop up guy. aaron cook is a mop up guy. that's pretty much it. he has the lowest k% since the expansion era in >40 innings of work. that's really, really, really bad to rely on your defense that much.
