Just cause it was kinda talked about before, and would be interesting, Carolina offers Jamie McBain and pick (2nd?) for Hemmer.

no, the fun part is what do YOU want for the dmen. i'll throw some names out and you tell me who you'd part with to attain said player(s):

Myers, Subban, McDonagh, Burns, Letang, Seabrook, OEL, Edler, Bouwmeester, Brian Campbell.

K go go go

Ron Hainsey for Theo Peckham and the rights to Linus Omark.

What the Oilers get:
Hainsey, while not a superstar by any means, is a great all around d-man but with a hefty cap hit. He is certainly an upgrade over Edmonton's current top 4 (minus Whitney of course) and has more offensive potential than he has shown in The Peg (he does not get much PP time). Hainsey was a +9 for the Jets last year and was one of two defenders who had a positive +/- (Enstrom at +6 being the other).

What the Jets get

The Jets could use some extra grit on the blueline and Peckham fills the role nicely. Peckham is a step down from Hainsey in almost every other way, but would fit just fine in a bottom pairing role. Omark, if signed, would be used as a 13th forward like Tim Stapleton was last year with the potential to possibly have a breakout year with a different team. Unlikely but I like his offensive game.

Paul Martin + Eric Tangradi + Pens 3rd in 2013 for Ladislav Smid + Magnus Paajarvi.

Martin's slick skating might be better suited for the Oilers speed game.

As a Jets fan I'd want no part of this. I'd really only be interested in dealing Hainsey for an upgrade or picks (if we're eliminated by the deadline). Downgrading Hainsey makes little sense as I highly doubt Peckham could be manning the second unit with Bogosian in Winnipeg.

Those two specifically are running themselves out of Edmonton. The Jets can simply wait it out and sign them later if we really want to give one a try.

As for Edmonton you could get a top 4 defenseman, like Tallinder out of NJ, for Hemsky. Otherwise Gagner and/or your 2nd can get someone of similar value IMO. There's a few teams, like NJ and Columbus, who have a few extra defenseman they could deal, so I'd be looking at them as partners.

I would rather just keep Hainsey TBH.

We have enough bottom pairing guys, and have next to no use for Omark.

IMO, we'd be creating a hole on the second pair for no real reason or upgrade.

The Devils would give you Tallinder, and would adjust the + to net either Hemsky or Gagner. How much would have to be added?

Anybody from the Leafs back end you would want? If so what would you give up for them?

A lot. Tallinder isn't the kind of d-man the Oilers need.

No way from Edmonton. Pajaarvi isn't being traded while everyone thinks he is regressing.

Gunnarsson or Gardiner. But I'm sure Burke would ask for much more than I'd be willing to give up, especially for Gardiner. What kind of package would the Leafs want for Gunnarsson?

Ok. Of all the Devils defensemen, Tallinder is the most realistic target from the Devils' blue line. Volchenkov has an NTC that he won't waive, and the rest are integral to our D core.

Despres could be our top-4 if he pairs with Letang and Bennett could see some time with Crosby if we don't sign any top-6 forwards, so...

Despres + Bennett for Eberle?

No chance. How are we improving our defensive by giving up Smid?

I can't imagine Burke would want a package for Gunnar. I think he's looking for upgrades and therefore will offer packages instead of accepting one. Also, after moving Schenn and Aulie in the last few months, he's not going to move a really cheap player who is as good defensively as anyone we have.

Your kidding right.

The Oilers have too many D under contract right now and it would be best they wait until TC or a third into the season to see if Petry continues to improve, Whitney and Peckham comes back to form, and to see if J.Schultz is NHL ready.

Some Oiler media people have this fantasy if the Oilers get another top4 D their going to make the playoffs and they have some fans like the OP believing it.

That's ****ing terrible for Edmonton. They wouldn't even consider that package for just Smid, much less adding in MPS.
