Devils Prospect Poll 2012- #4

New Jersey Devils Prospect Rankings
1. Jon Merrill, D (NCAA) University of Michigan, Drafted 38th overall 2010
2. Eric Gelinas, D (AHL) Albany Devils, Drafted 54th overall 2009
3. Scott Wedgewood, G (OHL) Plymouth Whalers, Drafted 84th overall 2010

This has been done in years past and I always enjoyed seeing how us fans view the organization's top prospects in comparison to HF. Please make sure to post who you voted for and who you nominate to be added to the next poll.

I will be defining prospects based on HF's criteria.

Quote:
1. If a prospect is a skater (forward, defenseman) and has played in 65 NHL games or more before the completion of the season of his 24th birthday; or, if a goaltender has played in 45 NHL games before the completion of the season of his 24th birthday, that player will be considered graduated to the NHL. Conversely, if a player completes the season of his 24th birthday without passing those milestones, then that player will no longer be considered a prospect by Hockey’s Future, regardless of the player’s status with his NHL club.

2. An NCAA player who signs his first contract at or above the age of 22 has three years to meet the above criteria (65/45), while those NCAA players that turn pro under the age of 22 will be subjected to
the criteria above.

3. European players who sign their first NHL contract at or above the age of 22 have three seasons from the time they sign that contract to meet the above criteria. Those European players below the age of 22 that have signed a NHL contract will be subjected to the criteria in section one.
Here is the list of the organization's prospects that fit the criteria above.
Quote:
Jean-Sebastien Berube
Maxime Clermont
Matt Corrente
Joe Faust
Jeff Frazee
Artur Gavrus
Curtis Gedig
Mike Hoeffel
Ben Johnson
Mauro Jorg
Dan Kelly
Alexander Kerfoot
Corbin McPherson
Harri Pesonen
Blake Pietila
Derek Rodwell
Mike Sislo
Ben Thomson
David Wohlberg
Harry Young
Nominations- Wohlberg (5), Clermont (1), Hoeffel (1), Johnson (1)

These go by so quick. I'm supporting the idea that Wedge would have been caught if open longer. It's not the playoffs after all and he disappears normally if its not.

I will start to leave them open for 2 days but Wedge had a pretty commanding lead

wow these are coming at a fast pace, the wedge/urbom poll is pretty close.

I went wedge at 3 and urbom at 4.

number 5 is going to have to take some thought.

Urbom. Might as well end it because this shouldn't, and probably won't, be close.

I think he was saying Wedge disappears in the regular season? I'm not quite sure what he means.

Urbom here would represent more hope and desire than reality. Just my opinion.

I rephrased it. Settle that fish down.

And no i don't mean Clermont. Wedgewood goes for long stretches of suck during the regular season. Mahalak was arguably better later in the season as Wedge was getting sat. Once the playoffs started, he seemed to get back on track but what good is that at the pro level if a guy can't stay focused over the season.

So you voted for Matteau? I'm already cringing at the thought of Mytoe as our #5 prospect.

They said the same thing about Marty too. His junior numbers were far from good as well.

Wedgewood's gamelog: http://www.ontariohockeyleague.com/r...ByGame/id/1470

Aside from October it's not too shabby, just a few ODD games were bad. no real massive stretches.

My bad, he ended 2011 ****** and started 2012 ******.

We'll see how he starts the season in Elmira or wherever they put the goalies.

Nope. Not even close. I don't even think he was the best player we drafted this year.

Why is the idea of our most recent #1 pick as our #5 prospect cringe worthy?

I mean, we are talking overall potential here, and not who is the closest to the NHL, correct?

Granted, given how little we have seen of the newest draftees, I don't think anyone here has a real good grasp on the type of player Matteau is, but I would sure hope he's a better prospect then Urbom. No offense to Urbom and all, but has he stepped up to the point where u think he'll be better then a recent #1 pick?

So sure, I'll roll with Mytoe here.
