Good news that TSN will still be involved to take on some of the coverage. No way 1 network can handle it all.

No doubt in my mind Brian Williams will jump ship again if he doesn't retire by then. I believe the only non-Olympic work he does at TSN is some CFL fluff pieces.

OTOH, get ready for Glen Healy during the hockey broadcasts.

Sochi, Russia, doesn't really seem like a Chery kind of place.

Hockey on TSN is amateur hour with "broadcasters" like Gord Miller yelling at the top of their lungs trying to be bigger than the game.

And then just the overall clowns like Duthie, Hodge, Onrat and Simmons over the place.

It is just a big "yes" men network who won't dare say anything negative at all about the League.. they just do such a poor job.

Another great plus about this is do you think TSN will finally shut up about Team Canada 2014?

It was quite honestly a joke how they would divert so much of their time on their broadcasts when we were still YEARS away about 2010 team...and then a week after the games during the deadline show they were naming rosters for 2014..

Well you ain't showing any Canada games for a long time guys.

I grew up on CBC Olympics coverage. I love it. The voices behind CBC coverage are the voices of the Olympics too me. Sure it's probably nothing more than nostalgia, but the hell with it, I enjoy it.

CBC still has Bob friggin Cole doing games. Not to mention they have the biggest idiot on TV, Glen Healey, working games. It's also funny how you mention TSN employing people that think they're "bigger than the game" when you forgot to realize that Don Cherry still works for CBC...talk about an egotistical lunatic still living in the 70s

not to mention, TSN's HD programming is far superior to CBC's

The announcement is that CBC won these rights on their own. The joint CBC/Bell bids were previously rejected by the IOC. As of right now, CTV & TSN are out for 2014 & 2016.

One wonders how the heck CBC came up with the dough to outbid Bell.

I hope this means that they don't end up out of money when it comes to trying to renew NHL rights.

Sounds like Bell pulled the chute entirely and didn't bid.

I can't believe anyone in their right mind could say CBC is better than TSN at basically any type of sports coverage, and maintain a straight face.

Who cares about the commentary and personalities. I care about what events are shown live. I can watch everything I want to right now and that never seems to be the case with CBC. So what if a hack like Rob Black is doing gymnastics, I don't care! i just want to watch it live and uninterrupted.

I like how CTV offers the "world feeds" online

That would make sense, actually.. North American TV ratings for the 2014 Olympics will suffer big time from the time difference between here & Russia. Perhaps Bell didn't consider 2016 a big enough prize to make up for the likely low ratings on 2014.

To each their own, but I feel the commentators both for live events and studio coverage are part of the experience.

Bob Cole does 10 games a year and always a regional game now... if you want to bring up Bob Cole (who is one of if not the greatest announcers of all time) I get to bring up Pierre "DOUBLE DION" Phaneuf who still shows up on TSN.

and Gord Miller is still lead play by play guy on TSN.

Bob Cole was a great announcer.....10 years ago

Also, Pierre McGuire hasn't worked for TSN since 2011. He's exclusively with NBC now

CBC's hockey coverage, with the exception of Bob Cole, is superior to TSN (which is far superior to sportsnet).
