So much for my prediction. Carlson just signed a ridiculous steal of a deal for Washington. 6 years at not even 4 M per season. So there's a domino and a heck of a comparable.

That is a ridiculous deal! I doubt Bergevin can match that.

It's set the benchmark. A lot of Ppl thought Carlson might only get 2-3 years.

Now it's advantage Subban in negotiations when it comes to contract length. They can't afford to not match that term now, and on a contract of that term based on Carlsons extensions and Pacioretty, Subbans value is going to fall between 4.5-5m per given his play, marketing power and the market (more taxes here).

Any deal in that range I would personally praise.

It shouldn't be that far off, probably 4.25

Carslon averaged 21:51 ice time to Subban 24:18. Carlson had 32 pts and PK had 36. It's very close, hopefully Marc can use Carlson's contract to the teams advantage

As I wrote on the trade board, I'd do 5 or 6 years at 4.5 M per right now. But would Meehan? But how much more can he ask for after this Carlson deal?

Subban and Carlson are very comparable in terms of role, situation (both of them had to take on a huge role due to Markov/Green injuries) and offensive stats. Eric Engels laid out the case quite nicely in a few tweets.

Subban is a year older, so 1 year closer to UFA, that's the big difference.

If we can get 6 years out of it, I'd be fine with 4.75 M per year as well. The only issue with 6 years is Price and Subban would become UFA's at the same time.

One thing I am reasonably confident about, if the Habs and Meehan were talking about a 2 year deal, it most likely would have already been done.

My friend said on Facebook that 800AM said he has signed. Obviously untrue if they're the only one reporting it, but just adding to the conversation.

Just listened to the 2:00pm update and there's nothing on Subban.
Edit: They just said the Carlson signing adds to speculation that Subban may be signed in the coming hours...

If we can get Subban for 5+ yars for under $4M per, I'd be REALLY happy.

Great young core locked up for 5+ years and at good cap hits. Nothing wrong with that.

Carlson's contract is now the measuring stick.

PK should get six-year - 25 to 30 million .

IMO Carlson got lowballed.

Subban will get more money even though the term is likely this long.

If Subban gets more than 4.5, he's gonna get punched

Don't expect the Canadiens to sign PK Subban before midnight on the 15. If it happen, it will be a big surprise. Nobody expect one.

The Carlson deal will influence the outcome of the Habs-Subban negotiations, especially on the upper salary limit. I'm glad it came first.

Fowler now extended as well, 5 years at 4M per season.

The Carlson signing seems to have got the young D RFA ball rolling. Only a matter of time before Subban is signed now. I think at this point anyone thinking he gets short term is crazy.

Their stats are pretty comparable so I think this sets a ceiling which is very acceptable IMO.

It's not happening today if that's what you are hinting here. And who knows when signing players will be possible again after midnight tonight.

MA Godin wrote on twitter a few hours ago to look for a Price/Pacioretty type 2 year deal once the lockout is resolved. But if that was the case...why isn't he signed? How tough can it really be to do a 2 year deal? There HAD to have been talks for 4+ years for it to not be solved by now.

I'm kind of glad they didn't sign him right now. Teams just shelled out $200M in 24 hours for a handful of players on the eve of the lockout. Poor owners have no money and poor players are getting screwed. The optics are really bad. Glad PK and the Habs weren't part of that.
