I love Klefbom but I think Simmonds is a big powerforward the Oilers lack. Oilers are much more complete after this trade. Rinaldo is also young and can grow with the kids in Edm. Also makes Hemsky more available at the deadline

Sure we could use a defensemen. One of Weber or Pronger's caliber. That's about it. No reason to deal Simmonds for Klefbom (even though I'm high on him) as he won't even be on this side of the Atlantic this year.
What about a proposal based around Hemsky for Simmonds?
Simmonds had 28goals this year and is a very valuable type of player. Unfortunately for the Oilers, highly talented but oft injured players are not very valuable, so we would have to add a good amount me thinks.

no chance in hell. Why do EDM fans always think they can just pawn hemsky off and get quality, young talent in return? The only thing missing in this thread is offering us Sam Gagner.
Flyers say no deal quite easily. Simmonds is worth more than that package alone.
I've also read this as well. Bob Stauffer the Oilers inside guy was talking to various scouts and media people just before the draft about the possibility of the Oilers taking Ryan Murray first overall. He was told a number of times that the Oilers should take Yakupov and that they already had a defenseman that was probably better than any available in the draft this year.
I can see why Flyers would say "no" though. They're a contending team in a tough division. Klefbom isn't likely to be coming over this year and I doubt he'll be a top pairing guy for a few years. Not sure why the Flyers would even want Belanger

I like Simmonds a lot, but that trade would be tough to stomach. Simmonds did put up some good numbers last year, but he was also surrounded by some excellent talent.

I agree, Hemsky doesn't have much value right now. If he can stay reasonably healthy and return to a PPG player, then things change.

Oiler fans need to stop trying to get rid of Hemsky and Gagner. Even when the proposal isn't about them, they become part of the counter proposal almost immediately, every time. lol.
They are also in need of defence, and Klefbom is gonna be a very good defender. Some scouts say he has all the tools to be better then Ryan Murray
From Philadelphia's perspective, there are better options out there. This trade makes them worse this season, for no other reason than to help Edmonton right now. If they are trading Simmonds for a defensemen, I have to think they are going to want a more immediate impact, because that's what they are giving up in Simmonds.
I just don't think Philadelphia is looking to trade a top six forward for a player they would need to spend time to develop into a player they can use. A player like Petry, who is a bit more established, would make more sense for them... but I'd be surprised if they said yes to that package too.
As much as I would love to have Simmonds, I would pass. Like what I've seen and heard of Klefbom, could be that stud D the Oilers desperately need. IMO the Oilers are not going to make any moves until TC and even then they might stand pat until they see how Gagner, Whitney, and Hemsky perform in the first third of the season.

Classic HF. Guess they lose either way. They trade a promising dman for a ANOTHER winger, they're fools because they need defense. And HF knows they suck on defense. Right???
Nobody is taking away what Simmonds can bring to the Oilers, but forgive Oilers fans for wanting to keep Klefbom.
This makes no sense for Philly anyways, Klefbom is close to NHL ready. They're better off with immediate help in the top 4.
