I'm an optimist, and despite the abundance of time, I think he makes
no moves.

But the season doesn't start until October 13th. That's over 2 months for us to make changes.

Both him and Poulin said changes are still coming. We just need to be patient and see what happens. If nothing happens by the time the season starts then you can get on him about blowing smoke and not doing as much as he said he would.

Odds of a strike?

Better than 50/50. What if every GM is in lockdown for a strike? A strike changes everything.Last time(strike) we played 50 games that year? We don't know what Burke knows, this could be a long strike.

Are you sure you want quitters on the Leafs?

So any player that leaves his teams or wants to leave his team is a quitter?

If he leaves as a FA or RFA, no.

If he wants to leave while still under contract, it's a reasonable possibility.

Why not? We asked for him in the Beauch trade. Let's temper expectations on the guy until we have a solid baseline. Reiner was the man a while back, now we're freaking out over a true number one goalie.

I agree. He's made claims of improving this and that before only to say the price is too high or the lack of available whatever. I won't be too disappointed mind you, hopefully we get a top 5 pick out of it.

Burke's doing well at being patient for the moment. The prices for the piece(s) he's looking at are too steep. Chances are, the new CBA will drastically change the cap situation, which may open up avenues to one of the most flexible cap teams in the league.

Keep waiting, Burke, to see how the CBA unfolds.

Nearly a month ago, Toronto Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke assured fans he wasnít done seeking upgrades for his roster. Those upgrades have yet to materialize.

Sportsnetís Mike Brophy wrote Leafs fans were impatiently waiting for Burke to add an experienced defenseman and a first-line center, suggesting the Leafs GM would have to get creative to address those needs before the start of the season.

Easier said than done.

It hasnít been for lack of effort by Burke and his staff over the past month, but rather the lack of available talent in the trade and free agent markets.

comments please...
Every year Burke is going to get a goalie, number 1 center blah blah. Every year -- nothing. Same story.

Burke is in a lose-lose scenario. No one is lining up to make a trade, not at a price that makes sense for both teams. The rest of the league surely knows the Leafs are desperate. I'm just glad Burke is going with what we have instead of making a brutal trade that'll set this team back years. When something pops up that makes sense, like the JVR trade, then I'm confident Burke will pull the trigger. I haven't been able to say that about our GM in a long time.

The only information missing at this point is when and who that might be that is on the way in and out.
Now this is interesting.

ya but now burke is actually going to have to rationalize his moves to a new board likly with at least 1 member who is actually connected to sports ...
i think we all can agree burke is no genious ,a mediocre hockey general manager .who let his loyalty to ron wilson ,likly cost him his job
any new ownership in any bussiness looks at profits ,no 1,but with the emphasis on winning at a premium ,these guys are going to look at a 4 year track record ,and could likly want a young superstar to begin their tenure
so another lottery pick then trading up for the no 1 overall might not be out of the question
but im sure burke will be replaced by then

GM would mean mangement and thus not a strike. A strike I`m fairly certain is when the players cause the work stoppage. A lockout is when the management (GMs) cause the work stoppage. Correct me if im wrong.

The worst trades often happen when a team feels forced to make a deal. Patience is a virtue in a GM. As they say, "Sometimes the best trade is the one you didn't make."

I get all that and agree with it. But, all that being said, the Leafs certainly ought not go into the season with the team they have now.
