Don't try to "insert" intelligent comments. It always comes across as forced. What about the application is giving you trouble? Let me know if you need help with your personal statement or anything like that (I teach at a university).

Don't do this. As someone who worked in an admissions office, I'll tell you that it's very easy to tell when someone is purposefully dropping names. Sure, everybody could throw down Finnegan's Wake and War and Peace to sound like they're highly advanced readers, but such things tend to stand out against the rest of an application.

You'd be much better served by truthfulness.

Isn't that the truth? Sucks when all your co-workers smoke too.

Well I'm a lazy ****, don't do much community service or participate in clubs, and my grades are only slightly above average. Took a few AP courses and have been in honors English since freshman year. I have a problem with engaging myself in a curriculum that's essentially one-fits-all. Outside of school, I'm an avid reader. I read about an essay a day and a book a week.

Hope that doesn't come off as ingenuous

I do not.

Strangely enough, I have cravings of holding a cigarette and putting in my mouth but once I actually smoke, I feel repulsed.

I only smoke mini-cigars and another thing I cannot talk about.

I plan on never smoking cigarettes. ALL of my friends do though, sans maybe 1 or 2.

I know for a fact that the NJ smoking age is not 16.

What you been up to, boy?

Edit: You can't talk about it? Dude, we all know about your crippling meth addiction.

Ha! It's not illegal in New York to possess tobacco under the age of 18. It isn't even illegal for me to try and purchase it. The only ones who can get in trouble are the clerks for selling it to me.

when applying to a university, mention the classics like....Twilight. Definiteluty will get you in.

im a voracious reader, but i only read fiction. King, Crighton, Patterson, that sorta thing.

Ive read like 95% of all the S.K. books...which is...well, tough, if you add in the Bachman books hes done.

to be totally blunt, why dont you apply to a state school instead?

i applied to MIT, Carnegie Mellon, Cal Tech, UPenn, NYU, Columbia and Rutgers.

In the end i was accepted at Carnegie Mellon, Cal Tech, NYU, Columbia and Rutgers.

Which school did I go with?

Rutgers.

Why?

I still got an excellent education (I did ECE, they have a good ECE program), and I wasnt bankrupted when I left (i had to pay for it myself).

State schools have such a stigma, but you know what, it's not a bad deal whatsoever, especially if you can commute like I did.

Just my personal opinion, i know everyone wants the college experience and dorm life and stuff, but ask your parents if theyll put the difference between one of the more expensive schools and a state school into an IRA for you, and keep that money for a down payment on a house. youll get a good job being an honors student at rutgers, moreso than being an average student at wake forest. just my opinion anyway, no facts to back that up.

out of rutgers i got a job with bell south, which eventually transitioned into owning my own company. the economy kinda effed me hardcore, but other than that ive had a pretty good life till now.

Yeah, I'm sure you held off on smoking 'til 18.

I have a Black n' Mild once or twice a week. That's about it for regular tobacco.

Oh, and it isn't Meth, it's PCP. I found a way to smoke it.

I started for a completely idiotic reason. Then again, I have yet to hear any good reasons to start.

Damn Rangers and their inability to have blowouts.

My NYR coffee mug just arrived..

Will take place in my office, near the signed game puck

Was my 3rd try to get a mug delivered from the USA..
The 1st and 2nd were broken during shipment because of bad packaging

Regarding smoking : many people in my family are going to stop smoking at the moment.. but they are very hard to take in this situation as they need their nicotine

Damn, I don't see what's so enticing about this ****. I'm a Senior in highschool, never touched weed, cigarettes, or alcohol. And I'm not a loser who sits at home on Saturday nights either. It is possible to have fun while being straight, guys.

I don't even know how to have fun while doing that stuff, let alone without it.

Exactly this. Starting sophomore year in college and never did anything. I've had ample opportunity, believe me, but I just don't see the point.

Not trying to be preachy here, but I just don't get it.

Agreed. I'm also a senior, coming from a town with serious heroin traffic. Never even been around people who smoked anything. I've only drank twice at parties and hated it both times. I like being in control of my own body. Now if I get invited to a party, I just drive there so I have an excuse not to drink. Not to mention my girlfriend hates it.

My idea of fun is Taco Bell and frisbee.

just because you put alcohol into your body, doesn't mean you lose control over it. you can still control just how much you drink

A few things if I may about diet and exercise.

Obviously you are free to follow or not follow whatever I write.

1- Diet is 90% of the whole diet and exercise thing. No I am not kidding. Really I'm not kidding.

2- 99% of supplements are a complete and total waste of money (I am looking at you protein powders). If you eat properly you should never have to spend a dime in places like GNC.

It took me 34 years to realize this. Now at 35 I am 5'10, 155-160 and pretty ripped because I started concentrating on what I was eating.

As far as what I do for exercise:

Pull ups
Chin ups
Pikes
Push ups
Planks
Squats (should be doing more)
Sprints

If you would like to learn more by all means send me a PM. Or if some of you think I am actually not out of my mind we can continue this here too.

Black n' Milds have a lot of concentrated nicotine. That's the easiest way to get addicted to smoking cigarettes.
