Yeah, sorry Frenchy and others. I just got back from interstate (live in Australia) after hearing my Dad found out he had liver, lung, blood and neck cancer, and only a very short while to live (weeks).

THEN, while I'm visiting him, I find out his wife (my step Mum) has bowel cancer.

THEN, as I was staying at my step brother / sisters place to give my parents room in this tough time, my step sister (young, fit, healthy) has her third heart attack (her Dad died from that at a young age) in the past 12 months.

What the hell !!

Anyways, I wasn't in a good frame when I posted those comments, so apologies to all.

Not a great time for me truth be told. No excuses, I know. Can't they just find a cure for the god awful disease? That's another forum, and another thread though, I know - sorry.

I really wish we had kept JML.

Removing one of Wilson/O'brien from the top 4 and adding JML back would really give us a more balanced and effective d corps.

This is probably a longshot, but it could've been they gave Liles a choice in what he wanted to do. He contributed quite a bit to the community didn't he? I know he was being shopped at the trade deadline, but it could be Sherman telling him theres a chance he gets traded mid-season if Barrie/Elliot step up, and he could get shipped to the Leafs in the off-season and have time to settle down.

I totally agree with this. We should have kept him. At least JML was able to move the puck.

Trading JML has probably been the biggest mistake of the rebuild so far.

That's definitely what hurt the most. We got a late 2nd for Liles whereas we got Downie for Quincey, the inferior of the two.

I think Sherman either had his back against the wall or simply used it as a learning experience though. He's a pretty daft guy overall, so I'll accept it as a learning experience if that's what it was.

Agreed, not only was it bad value on the return but it severely weakened our ability to move the puck and generate offense from the backend and forced us to rush Elliot's development last season. We also wouldn't have needed to sign Hunwick to a multi year contract if we still had JML

that never made any sense, we should have at least gotten Toronto's 2nd for him. Boston's was basically a 3rd.

I'd love to see us make a lesser trade to Toronto for Cody Franson. He is a fine defender. I wonder what we could give up for him? Forget this year, but when Elliott, Barrie and Gaunce are developed, and we have more depth to select from, a nucleus of:-

Johnson, Franson, Siemens, Wilson, Gaunce and maybe Elliott as our puck moving D-man would look great (in say two years).

We're overcrowded as it is, don't see a trade for a defender unless we're acquiring a clearcut upgrade.

Franson would just add to the logjam we have on defense.

I have thought about trading for Franson too and I asked about his value from TML fans. Apparently they would be fine with a mid pick. But Franson sat quite a while in the press box last year, yes?

this is totally unrelated to anything, but I find it funny as hell. Go to coloradoavalanche.com and click on their "Facebook" tab, you'll see the the plug for their facebook page. On the large graphic, you see a post about Bernie rappelling down a skyscraper, and a comment visible by one Ryan Winter is as follows (clearly visible on the main page of a hundred-million-dollar professional sports franchise):

Quote:
Funny, while most teams update its fans on where their respective team managements project them to be, and what is expected going in to a new season etc, gold ol' Avs has "bernie goes over the edge" as their main news piece on their official website for weeks. Great to see the big isssues/subjects being addressed at Avs headquarters.

I can't believe this is an actual rumour because it's one of the worst proposed deals I've heard in my life.

Agreed. I think it's just that the shine of their two new toys has faded a bit in Wild blogger land and now they realize how screwed they are cap wise if they don't shed some salary. So now there's this panic.

You got it the wrong way. Tampa would be idiotic to trade Hedman for Heatley, Yzerman should get fired the next day if that happens. I never even heard of the rumors(doubt it's even a rumor) but it's borderline ridiculous for Tampa.

I'm not sure Hedman will ever be a good top pairing guy, but I see no reason why Tampa would want Heatley. Wrong age and regressing. Bad fit for a rebuilding team.

Agreed. I'd love to see him on the Avs if we could swing it, but it isn't very realistic. He's a big lefty with top notch defensive abilities, could allow EJ to work his magic offensively and they'd be one of the better defensive duos in the league.

Maybe one day, if TB drafts Jones and he makes Hedman replaceable for instance.

For some reason I was just thinking of a Stas for Seabrook trade. There would be other additions to each side but what do you think of it?
