Hall got a 7 year extension for 6 mill per year. Personally seems a bit much for a guy whose hurt every year.

It's going to be really funny when, people pencil him into the top 4 or 6.

He got that much because he won TSN's "Best under 25 year old" tournament.

There is no way he should be paid more than Tavares.

Quite honestly this is one of the dumbest contract extensions in recent memory given Hall's production thus far and his rather substantial injury history. Something bad will happen to him if he continues to run around the ice like a headless chicken.

GM's and owners just continue to hand out dumb shortshighted contracts, and then every time the CBA is up they ask the players to bail them out of their mistakes by asking to give a bunch of money back. Who the hell would agree to a deal like that?

GM - "Hey, here's this overpriced deal that you should have for no reason."
Player - "Oh, cool thanks."
Owner - "Hey you need to give back a quarter of what we gave you. Our league has too many problems economically."
Player - "**** off!"

They'll never learn unless there's a deal structured like the PA put out where the owners have to cover for each other. If they're the ones covering for each others mistakes instead of the players, maybe they won't hand out these retarded deals.

What does it say about the owners that they don't want to do that though. They want to continue to hand out bad deals to bring in the best players, because they know they aren't fully on the hook for bad financial decisions, and will just ask the players to roll back their salaries every CBA.

That's just idiotic. It's only a steal if he hits his ultimate potential, and starts playing more then 60 game seasons.

Can't believe they would hand out that money at that term for a player that's only played two injury shortened seasons.

He doesn't even have arbitration rights. What's the point? They're really afraid he's gonna be worth like $8M under the new CBA in two years if they only sign him short term?

I don't think it's that bad. Worst that happens is he turns out like Hemsky, or goes on LTIR. Could turn out to be a steal, but should be a fair contract.

The dumbest part is that they didn't need to offer him an extension this offseason.

Imagine if Colorado and Duchene (whose first two seasons in the NHL were better than Hall's) agreed on that kind of an extension last offseason.

It's bad because they're paying for his potential and not based on what he did in his career thus far.

Ridiculous contract.

Has the potent to grow into a player that earns that kind of money, but can't justify that yet. Especially with his injury history.

While that is true, I don't see how Hall won't be worth that. Obviously things change over time, but even if he was producing at a PPG, you don't know if he'll keep it up. It's more of a situation where they'll be investing that amount sooner or later into Hall. This way he'll be happy, and it shows the other young stars that management is committed into keeping them.

I personally think giving Hall a contract extension is less risky than giving it to Duchene.

That is way to much money. Tavares>>Hall in my opinion for skill. Even though the way the contracts do work out about the same with Hall having one more year but still. I am glad Sherman is smart enough to give a contract to Duchene to see if he is worth 6 million.

I wish there was space on the roster for a defenceman who is great offensively, even if he is undersized and poor defensively. Streit and Letang were the only two defencemen to break 40 points without having another defenceman on the team get over 30 points. Some of the top scoring defenceman even had two more defencemen on the team get over 30 points. Whether that is a cause of playing with the highest scoring defenceman or vice versa, I do not know, but it makes me think that it will be hard for any of our defencemen to put up good numbers until someone offensively orientated is brought in.

This makes me wonder if trading O'Byrne lets say, and giving his spot to Elliott/Barrie would be beneficial. While they are obviously not in the same ball park defensively or physically, it would bring A LOT more offense.

For example:

Team goals for:

While Elliot was on the ice: 31 (24 without PP)
While O'Byrne was on the ice: 36

This is despite Elliott playing 35 less games. Over 82 games that is an extra 11 goals for just even strength. This would put the team at 219 goals for, or 6th place in the West in goals for. Meanwhile the ES goals against differential would be less than 1 more goal against over 82 games (in a vacuum). Now Elliott was extremely sheltered, but is O'Bryne's defensive contributions really worth the complete lack of scoring while he is on the ice? Obviously it doesn't extrapolate out exactly like this, but it still would seem the O'Byrne is a black hole offensively. Although, Hejda was barely out for more goals for, while being out for a lot more goals against. Regardless, even if it wasn't Elliott filling in I think I would be totally fine with O'Byrne being traded to open up space for an offensive defenceman. This is taking into account the recent re-signings. There are other defencemen I'd want gone before him, but it just seems extremely unlikely.

O'byrne is too valuable to the team on ES and the PK

At best, if he becomes an absolute elite PPG+ player and stays healthy, it will be a pretty good deal. $6M isn't exactly chump change.

Yea but that's got to suck for Avs players, if the league gets their way again and salaries are rolled back again. I doubt the PA will ever agree to 24%, but can you imagine what they would be getting for their money?

EJ - $3.02 M for four years
Duchene - $2.82 M for two years
Jones and PAP - $3.23 M for four years
Downie - $2.14 M for two years
McGinn - $1.41 M for two years
Varly - $2.28 M for two years

And that's what they would be negotiating off for their next deals too.
