Toronto Maple Leafs 1st 2013
Toronto Maple Leafs 2nd 2013
(Keep in mind where Toronto has drafted the past couple years)
Cody Franson
Jake Gardiner
PK Subban
Leafs pay a very hefty price but get their future number one center at a very young age.
Mtl does this as they are not likely going to be making any noise any time soon and could likely draft another couple impact players with the Leafs' picks who will be ready when the rest of the team is ready (they gain more time to have these players committed to the team RLC/RFA). They also get a relatively young dman with fairly good potential. (Personally I don't like this from MTL perspective but I wanted to include Subban in the deal and see how MTL fans value him)
Edmonton loses a significant asset but deals from an area of strength and addresses an area of weakness getting two potential stud defensemen.
Obviously there will be disagreement over the value so what does everyone think needs to be changed in this deal in order for it to work? Try not to simply flame, this was meant for discussion so try to add value tweaks. I am just curious what the various fanbases think
Not even close from an Edmonton perspective. We fully expect Nuge to be in the conversation for 4th best player in the league after Malkin Crosby and Stamkos within 2-3 years.
a) This is just downright horribad for Montreal. Like I can't even.
b) Edmonton has winger depth, not center depth. They already freak when you propose they trade Hall or Eberle for D and this one does not even make sense, so prepare for that onslaught too even though valuewise they probably win.

That's lofty expectations, probably unrealistic too unless Edmonton starts making some noise down the line.

Sounds good from an Oilers perspective. Maybe we can throw in Hall or Yakopov and the Leafs can throw in a nice plate of sandwiches and a glass of milk. You know, just to even things up.

Spam sandwiches. Dig in Oil fans, dig in. I'll enjoy my smashed meat sandwiches while RNH is feeding Hall tap ins in a Leaf uniform. Sounds like a deal.
Actually that doesn't sound so bad, almost overpayment. If my team had Subban + Gardiner I would be hesitant to offer that. Hopkins is all potential and quite undersized still. I wouldn't say his rookie season was extremely impressive, he will have to do more than that in my own opinion to warrant that.

The Oilers have been trying for years to get a number 1 centre and the last thing they will ever do now is trade it. Fills a hole but leaves an even bigger one. RNH is the most untouchable player on the Oilers.

I just don't see how that's the Oilers area of strength... PS. Nuge isn't a winger.

Hopkins is all potential? OK. That's all that was needed to be said..
