I was solely stating that swimming and athletics might be huge in the US and Europe, but there are other parts of the worlds where different sports are also very popular just like badminton and table tennis and China. And there are 1.34 billion Chinese on this planet. Saying no one cares is simply ignorant. The US are great at sports they care about and the Chinese are great at sports they care about.

And us Germans are great with any sports that has a paddle.
is swimming really huge in Europe? I'm just asking because there is very little attention about swimming in CZE. I thought it's a strong olympic category just because almost everybody can swim, so there are many good swimmers, but it's not that popular overall.

Outside of the Olympics, the attention is also not that big in Germany. But it is definetly seen as one of the main events during the Olympics here.

And also a good excuse to complain about how bad our swimmers suck. If only complaining was Olympic, we would always win Gold.

Because that's the way you're coming off. Why do you care if I think that China wins in sports most people don't care about? It's just my opinion and really shouldn't have much effect on you.

If it didn't, you wouldn't have been all up in arms over it.

And I'm not wrong insinuating that athletics, with the 80,00 people watching in the stadium daily, is a bigger event than table tennis or diving and that the US excels in that over China.

If there were gold medals for ignorance and arrogance, I know who would be top of the podium every 4 years.

Is it really the Chinese fault if they excel at a sport that was invented by the British?

I find it ironic an American on a hockey website is complaining about china excelling at sports "no one else" cares about. See American Football, Baseball, NASCAR, Lacrosse and to a lesser extent Basketball. Not forgetting Hockey itself of course, which is hardly a global sport.

So by your logic basketball <<<< triple jump <<<< cycling ?

Oh and Jamaica >>> US considering they won the most popular athletic events.

Or does your great logic only work one way?

And before someone calls me out for above comparisons, i am only using sabrefan's awesome logic, not actually stating my opinion.

Are you saying athletics are not the biggest events at the Olympics?

Well isn't that the case for most sports?

Soccer? British invented it, Brazil perfected it.

Cricket? British invented it, Aussies excel at it.

Rugby? British invented it, Aussies excel at it.

The 100M is probably the marquee event. Not sure that every Athletics event ranks that high though.

Was the High Jump, Shot Put or hammer throw a bigger event than say the Tennis at Wimbledon or the Triathlon?

Come on now. Overall, track & field is the biggest attraction at the games.

No doubt. The only thing worse than being totally ignorant is for one to be arrogant about their ignorance.

China dominating table tennis is no different from USA dominating Basketball. They're equally boring as a result.

USA media just loves to spew propaganda about themselves and paint China in dark colors, and the rest of the western world swallow it.

You do realize that the Daily Mail is not an American newspaper, right?

Daily Mail is a fear mongering, nationalistic load of rubbish which no one intelligent takes seriously. They're worse than The Sun for God's sake and that's saying something.

Pretty much this + The Sun is quite a bad newspaper but it doesn't beat the Daily Star

Don't be silly. Don't you know when an American, like the 2 posters here, say that, "no one cares," even though it's only an American saying it, it automatically means the rest of the world doesn't care. Because, you know, America speaks for the rest of us.

Ahhhhh, if Americans don't excel, that means nobody in the world cares!

You're making Americans look bad here.

America also likes to pretend they are the best in the world at something when they really aren't. The title of "fastest man in the world" has always gone to the winner of the 100 m race. When Donavan Bailey of Canada broke the World Record and won the gold medal in the 100 m at the 1996 Olympics, NBC (and probably other media outlets) touted Michael Johnson (winner of the 200 m and 400 m) as the "fastest man in the world."

Seriously?? I mean are Americans so insecure in losing their number one status in the world (in any sporting events) that they have resort to making things up, twisting the facts or pretending they don't care?? It's simultaneously funny and sad.
