I have thousands of cards from late 80s and early 90's... I wish they increased in value more than they have... Oh well

Here's some of my collection from the 80's and 90's in my closet. I doubt they're worth much but still a cool thing to have. I put as many as I could into this picture but there's still more.

Anyone know where I can snap up a bunch of really cheap rookie cards from the past couple seasons? I mean sets like Score Hot Rookies or UD Victory or OPC, the ones that go for $0.50-$1. I know I can hunt them down individually from eBay or wherever but then you end up paying for and expecting a bunch of different orders and this is for like 50 notable rookies from the past couple seasons.

Just bought a 1957-58 Topps John Bucyk rookie card for $43.50 on eBay.. Not in perfect condition, a few of the corners are rough but not too bad. Beckett has it listed for $250.00 so not a bad purchase!

Thx for bumping, anyone have an answer to the post I asked two posts above this regarding rookie cards?

Also I wanna build a set of hockey's most notable 200-300 players from before the mid-90s (I already collect cards of players who have retired since the mid-90s from their final yr or a card showing their stats from after they retired). What would be a good point for me to start at in terms of sets to collect at least one card of each of the old retired legends (not just Orr's and Esposito's but also guys who'd rank 150 or 200)? I know there's a set called Fleer Greats of The Game which is a nice card because it has the complete career stats of the player, anything else similar?

First thing that comes to my mind is Checkoutmycards.. They seem to have just about anything, so you‘d be best to go there. If I remember correct, the cards are mailed to the company for them to sell on the site, so the cards would just be combined for one order, or as many as you wanted it to be. Just add them to your cart and you‘re set. A few cards might be out of stock, so you could most likely find them on eBay, but you should be able to get about 90% of the cards you want on there.

^ So I found an even better site for getting cheap base singles from to help me build my notable retired players set. It's called http://www.sportlots.com/ and the majority of base cards on there are like 18 to 50 cents but the selection is even better than comc or canadianhockeycards.

Now what sucks about it is that they have different sellers you shop from so if you buy 100 cards from 3 different sellers then you have to pay shipping to 3 different sellers unlike COMC or CHC but like I said, far better for selection. There's also one called sportsbuy which is another card marketplace site that seems to have the same low prices but the search on that is being too slow.

Anyone know where I can buy a box of 2009-2010 OPC Premier in the GTA (or downtown)? I went into a store the other day after I saw they had it online, and they had no idea what I was asking for. They also tried to tell me that SP Authentic was the same as SP Game Used...that's when I left. Also, if anyone is selling a Crosby or Malkin Young Guns card, let me know.

That's in mint condition, or relatively close.

Get it graded.

Google hockey cards in Toronto/GTA.

Malkin young gun card won't be too difficult to come across. A Crosby young gun will set you back 300, or more.

I just bought a lot of Roy cards for 25 dollars. 56 cards. 1 of the cards in the lot I just paid 25 bucks for by itself 2-3 weeks ago. I gotta be more observant.

The card is a Roy Platinum player's club card.

There's an older Roy I want. He's on the avalanche. It's before 2000. I'd say it;s between 97-2000. It's a specialty card. All I know is, at the time the set was new the Gretzky card of this was worth 1,200.

It was around the time of Dynagon set. It's also very colourful.

EDIT: I think it's adrenaline rush

Nope. I believe there's a colourful spiral behind the player. There's also different levels. It's bright.

I haven't collect since the early 90's. Recently just got the itch to buy a box. Not looking to make any money or anything. Just for fun. I've done a littler research and it looks like Upper Deck is still king? Wondering what box would be best to buy for around $50-$100. I'd rather have like 25 mid quality packs than the 10 high quality packs. I love the fun in opening. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

I would probably go with the upper deck series 1 or 2.

For upper deck they certify online stores to sell their product. The list of stores can be found here:

To the guy who asked CHL cards aren't being regularly produced by anyone. Sometimes a team will make a team set and it'll show up on eBay. Post Cereal in Canada is currently selling cut-out hockey cards of 24 CHL goalies in their cereal. You can buy an ITG Heroes & Prospects base set which will have a fairly large number of CHL players in it.

If you just wanna open a bunch of cheap packs then go to a dollarama and buy some Pristine Marketing packs (dollar each) and Dollarama is the only dollar store I know which carries those particular ones. They have 15 mixed cards in them from the late 80s to now. Of course they're pretty much all invaluable cards but it's cool to see some of the ones from different sets you get. I find that it's 2/5ths random unknown players, 2/5ths notable NHLers from that time period, and 1/5th NHLers who are still playing. Other than that the best way to get cheap card packs is from a card expo like the one happening in Toronto in a bit or to go on eBay and buy a lot of unopened packs which are mixed (I always find mixed to be more fun). I'm like you, I prefer quantity over quality and love good looking base cards...there were some cool designs from the late 90s so if you can find an unopened pack of those from eBay then it's pretty good. $50-100 would get you much more packs that way than buying them in a retail store but if you do go retail then I'd say Upper Deck or Black Diamond or O-Pee-Chee or Artifacts. I tend to just get the 400 card base set for Series 1 & 2 on eBay and buy a few packs here and there and get the rest through singles.

You can look through the list here, gives a bit of info on each one, this is the 2012-13 ones: http://www.cardboardconnection.com/s...-hockey-cards/

The high end cards (Prime, The Cup, Dominion) come out at the beginning of the season but are actually 11/12 cards. So Dominion for example was released a month or two ago but is a 2011-12 product showing stats from 10/11. I love the base cards from those though, really nice thick card stock, of course a pack will cost $300+ so I don't bother with that but you can usually find some base singles for $1-5 on eBay.

What type are you looking for in particular? Just a few packs to open or do you want a base set with player stats from 11/12 and before for a bunch of notable players? If that's the case then Upper Deck Series 1 comes out in a week I think? You can get the base set of 200 cards shipped for around $20 or less, a box is obviously a lot more and has less cards usually but higher end ones. I prefer to wait until both Series 1 and 2 are released so I can get the whole base set, it's neat to put that in a binder, gives you a bit of a scrapbook for each season, order a few higher end cards maybe for the preceding season's award winners at the front of the binder. If you're going for a hit though then I'd recommend not getting a 12/13 product that's mid-end because the crop of rookies in Series 1 obviously isn't very good, the only high end ones I think are Kreider, Baertschi, Schwartz, and Silvfvfvfverberg so far.

Anyone do any TTM's here recently btw? Post any sigs you got if you tried it, I've been meaning to for a while.

I'm doing a project where I'm trying to find a card from the last season or after the last season of each notable player (around 250) to retire since the late 90s preferably showing their career stats. Amonte retired in 2007 but fortunately I finally found an 07/08 card for him from Sportlots which shows his final career totals on it, (Upper Deck 07-08 MVP). Is that MVP the last card made for Amonte showing his NHL stats or was there another 07/08 card made for him? Other than that one atm the Amonte cards I have are:
05/06 Upper Deck ICE #17 (nice design on this one)
94/95 Topps/OPC Premier
02/03 UD Piece of History #70 (boring card but I bought it as a 90 card set for $9 because it's a cool set since it contains a card of all those great stars who played in the late 90s and a few emerging ones in early 00s although for some reason it included a bunch of mediocre goalies like Durnan and Tommy Salo and Marc Denis).

I have coming to me/have gotten over 100 Roy cards at a cost of about 134 dollars. Of those cards I'm getting/have got:

Be A Player 95-96 Signed - 35 dollars BV 100
97/98 Pinnacle Artist Proof 25 - BV 60
98-99 Black Diamond Myraid /1500 - 4 BV 30
02-03 Game used Authentic Fabrics /225 9 - BV 40
97-98 Artist Proof - 20 BV 75
Lot of 6 cards: 1 - BV Unknown. Waiting to look for it when I get them
Lot of 56 Roy cards - 25: Book Value - 65 after 3 cards + a jersey card I believe is worth 30.
97/98 Pacific Dynagon Emerald, Silver and Red(copper?) - 28 - BV 30,15, 20 (65)
97/98 Pacific Omega - Grey, Emerald, Copper 4.50 BV 10,10,10
Lot of 44 Patrick Roy cards -5.50 BV Unknown. Waiting to get them to check, but it makes my collection more diverse.
Lot of 5 Roy cards: 6.25 - BV: Waiting/don't care. I didn't have them before.

So, a total BV of around 450 + jersey (I think it was 30) + a few inserts/unknowns.

I believe once I receive all of the cards I'll have over 300 Roy cards that are different in one way, or another.

Notable doubles off the top of my head are:
Platinum Player's club. BV 25.
93-94 Electric Ice BV 15
And a rookie I believe I got in a cheap lot. The print date is 86 and I don't see anything that would implicate a reprint, so I'm hoping to get a few cards together and send it in to be graded to see for sure.

I also bought a graded (9) Peter Forsberg rookie card for 5 bucks. It's not worth much, but it's nice to have with a graded Jagr rookie. More nostalgia feel than actual going for BV

I got to shut it down for Christmas and all. However, my final two looks are a Roy card from 98-99 graded a 9.5 and only 99 for 35 ish dollars. BV 70ish I think. Another special edition gold graded 9.5 for 30 dollars BV around 50. Even before that I'm watching 2 Stamkos Young guns both graded a 9.5.

I'm not sure if it was a good idea, or not, but I bought a Nugent-Hopkins rookie graded 9.5 for 82 bucks. BV is 100. So,in that sense I got a good deal, but I don't feel like it.

Nice pick ups in your PC.

Where was that Nuge card graded from? I suspect in a few years it's value will go up alot more.

CheckOutMyCards is having a sale on black Friday. Free shipping at least, 10 cent credit or something on every card purchase and a few other goodies so it should be cool.

However since I just buy base cards now, I've shifted my place of purchase to Sportlots. 18 cents for most base cards. Also wanna go to the Expo once so I can get some cheap vintage cards for cheap, bought a few 71 OPC/Topps cards from Sportlots but anything before 1970 is expensive.

Designed some customs including a Ted Lindsay one, I'll upload it later on. Also need to find a high res or large sized picture in good quality without a signature on it so I can make a custom Johnny Bower card. I couldn't find an actual Bower card with his career stats on it so I thought I'd make one, might as well send it for TTM too if he signs it.
