Panini is a terrible card producer...they use only rehashed ideas, hire rejects for their managers and they acquired all of their sportscard licenses by throwing tons of money at those leagues instead of earning their place in the industry. The license they own now in the NHL should have been Topps'.
In recent years the Panini cards seem to carry a heavy value.

Why the hell was there an O-Pee-Chee and a Topps ?

The Sports Card Expo is this weekend in Toronto. I went for the first time in the Fall and it was good fun, soo many dealers, so I'll probably go for a day or two again.

Found a box of sports cards (CFL, NFL, MLB, PGA etc...) when I helped clear out the basement of a closing business a few years ago. I realize they're worth next to nothing, but the feeling of opening them decade old packs every couple months makes me smile like a kid again.

I was thinking of going to the Sports Card expo this time but it's $12 just for admission per person (and I wouldn't go alone for sure). Plus the dealers sell higher end stuff and they charge $20+ for almost all autographs...not worth it. There is another card show....West Toronto one or something I heard which happens fairly frequently, I wanna go to that one since I think it's lower end cards and I prefer quantity plus they only charge $3 for admission.

I got a nice set of 1997 Donruss for $10 with shipping with an eBay gift card. The set has 230 cards and is a nice way to scrapbook the 1996-97 season....only thing is that it's missing a few notable players from that time like Lidstrom and Foote and a bunch of other good defensive dmen so I have to find cheap 97 cards for them before putting it in a binder.

This is a great show for any type of hockey collector! I am there all weekend. Already added lots to the collection and going to look for more today.

If I'm not mistaken you can get packs graded...

You can, but unless you have something pre-1990, it is not worth it. Certainly not for Pro-Set or Score.

There are still warehouses of unopened Pro-Set out there.

I would love to buy a box of 79-80 OPC. There would have to be atleast one Gretz RC in there... Probably cheaper to just guy a bgs 6 or 7 RC then to pay for a box, last time I checked single packs were like $50+ bucks and considering all the patch fakers out there it wouldn't surprise me if some scum opened and resealed them.

Depends on the grade. They seem to be more expensive now than they were 2-3 years ago.

That is a Gretzky rookie graded. Not graded it's significantly cheaper.

There's a ton of lower end at the expo as well, you just have to dig through many boxes or binders to find what you're looking for. I didn't go for that long this weekend, but when I went in the Fall, I was there for about 14 hours over 2 days just spent digging through boxes and binders, and didn't come close to getting to all the tables.

Is there any news about the 2013 rookie class being in the same class as the 2014? Panini and UD series 1 should be fill with great rookies.

As a kid, I would pick up a Beckett and look at the back as see all of the arena addresses. As such, I would fire off a bunch of cards to my favourite players for them to autograph.

Two guys I sent a lot to were Bure an Selanne, and each of them would sign and send back the cards I sent them within a week or two. I also sent one to Gretzky, and I received his card back autographed after six months.

I don't care for any value these cards may have (I know people say cards are worthless if signed). What I wonder is that I truly have cards signed by Bure, Selanne and Gretzky themselves, or they had some PR person do it for them. Does anyone have any insight into this?

I used to do the same thing.

I was hard up for cash about 6 months ago, so I started selling some on eBay, one of which was a Jagr card. The guy I sold the Jagr card to said he went to get it authenticated by Beckett and they told him it was a fake/wasn't Jagr's autograph. so *shrugs*, take from that what you want.

Back in February, I posted up some pics of some Homemade cards that I'd made... (Back on page 23 of this thread)

(I was a longtime Ray Bourque Collector - had virtually every card of his up to the late-90's, but when the Card Co's started to go haywire (and RB had 49 different Jersey cards in Upper Deck products alone one year), I started to lose interest... Instead, I started a "new" phase of hobby-fun...)

Anyways - A few people had asked me to put up a few more pictures...

Again, all these cards exist in "real tangible" form - all with autgraphs...

Started making a series with a ticket stub from the player's rookie season (obviously from his team - this one is a Bruins ticket stub from the 65-66 season), along with an autograph)

Just some cut autos from famous line combinations

Self Explanitory

This was an Original 6 set I was putting together called "C-Worthy" - it's a single Quad Autograph card (this is front and back) - featuring some of the prominent Captains of O-6 teams...

Early autographs from some of the games most noted "Leaders"... Still have to put together the Ronnie Francis and Joe Sakic from this set...

Miscellaneous Stuff

More Miscellaneous stuff...

That Guy LaFleere fellow...

Another of the Legends Of The Game set I've been working on...

That's it for now... Oh - except I'll post up an interesting tidbit in a few... Those of you who get/read/follow Beckett Magazine may have seen this (depending on how long you've been reading)! - Heh...

I've seen you in Beckett years ago, beautiful creation.Cant believe you made all those cards, and the funny thing is they are much better looking then the licensed stuff. I remember the days of the first game used cards, I believe it was 96-97 UD, and every single one booked for 100-200+. Now the market is so diluted with jersey cards you can buy them on eBay for a buck.

Just opened the ITG 2012/13 prospects hobby box.

Pretty pleased with the results. Highlights:

Signed Doug Gilmour card
Tyler Wothersoon Silver jersey
Triple jersey: Pouliot, Murray, Marcantuoni Gold Version. All 2 colour.

A lot of fun to open a box like that. I'll definitely buy another box next year. Probably grab the UD hobby box when it comes out.

Yeah sorry.

It was a heroes and prospects box. It's a pretty fun set. Like the combo of hall of famers and prospects.

The stats belong to Simon Gagne.
