Inferno, how did you vote for Carolina as #5? They're automatically a top 3 seed...

Not doing it by playoff standings, strictly power rankings.

Going with Carolina as well. They've done a good job of improving the team especially with the Semin deal. I don't like Semin at all but a one year deal for a guy with his talent is great. I don't think their D is as bad as people make it out to be and Cam Ward's a good goalie year in and year out. Don't think they're better than the other 4 remaining though but they will win the Southeast.

Power Rankings and playoff rankings are not the same. hence why i break everything down in the post.

this is strictly power rankings. if carolina wins (loses?) this round, their power ranking would be 5, but their playoff ranking would be 3.

I'm picking the Flyers. I don't think Philly's D is anything special and with the loss of Meszaros, 5th - IMO - is too high for Philly.

Carolina. I don't believe they deserve to be ranked this high anyway.

So, let me get this straight: There are people that believe Carolina is better than a team that is bringing back almost all of their pieces from last season, has many young, talented forwards, and decent blueline, and a goalie who can be very good?

Carolina finished 12th in the East last season and people think they will jump to a team that will win it's division as well as finish with 4th most points in the East? I really want to hear the mindset of people here on Carolina. That to me is the biggest thing here. No team makes a jump like Carolina is going to make, and I'm not talking about standings position. I'm referring to lottery selection to a team that can compete for the Cup?

Not happening. Carolina should have been gone 4 selections ago.

Florida went from picking third overall in the draft to winning their division last year and they didn't improve as much as Carolina did.

I don't mean to lurk or anything, but you're pretty off base here.

Under Maurice, the Canes went 8-13-4, but under Muller we went 25-20-12. That's an 89 point pace which would have been good for 9th in the conference. If you give Muller a five game grace period to implement his system (we went 1-4 in his first five), then our record under him goes to 24-15-12, which is a 96 point pace, good enough to win the Southeast.

This is taking into consideration that the Canes were without their best defenseman in Joni Pitkanen for almost the entire season; Eric Staal had his worst year since his rookie year; Jussi Jokinen and Tuomo Ruutu had their worst year as Canes, and Skinner was hampered by a concussion for much of the year. You can't really expect everything to go as horribly wrong as it did last year. It's pretty reasonable to expect that all of our main guys up front will have at least decent bounce back years.

Adding Jordan Staal and Alex Semin to a team that was on pace to be well in contention for a playoff spot under Muller, and even win the division if you do excuse his first five games, it's really not unrealistic at all to expect a division title.

According to the polls, they are already expected to take the division. If they lose this one, it means they are expected to end up with less points than the Rangers, Penguins, Bruins, and Flyers.

As for me, I voted for the Mezsaros-less Flyers, that D looks awful.

Carolina's defence is still to shaky for me to give them the 5th seed. I still see them fighting for a PO spot.

I took them for #5 as I believe the other 4 tears are CLEARLY better.

Very surprised they are ranked this high.

In a weak division which is SE it shouldn't be a surprise to see a team making a jump from lottery to winning the division. My opinion is that they are better than Washington but because the board put Sens and Devils below Caps - that forced Carolina into the 5th spot in the ranking instead of 7th where I'd have them. Otherwise I agree with you that there is no way that Carolina is better than Philly or for that matter any remaining teams in the poll.

Voted Flyers because I thought this was a "final ranking" poll and not power rankings...ooops.

Would have voted Canes here had I known.

I'm confuzzled that the flyers are getting so few votes. No defense, no goaltending and an offense that over achieved last year.

...and still more talented than Carolina.. And I don't understand the lack of support for the Caps. Ribeiro in and an Semin out is an upgrade for their roster. Full year of Backstrom (and maybe the same applies for Green), means better OV. Caps will be improved from last year.
