Ottawa is a deeper team. Their top 4 is solid. Their top 6 is good and have a lot of good young forwards coming (Stone, Zibanejad, Silfverberg). Craig Anderson is better than people think. He's not as big of a drop from Ward either. Alfredsson is coming back. I think this is the spot they belong in anyway, but at this point in the vote, they are better than the Canes.

it's 60/40 split for me.... 60 for OTT being behind CAR. Anderson has stunk in his second year on almost every team he's played on. Great 1st then phooey second.

The Debils will not make the playoffs if they lose Sykora in addition to Parise and Ponikarovsky. The 3 of them combined for 66 goals. Their replacements won't score over 40-45 max. This will mean that the Devils will likely be the lowest scoring team in the East.

I have the Sens below the Sabres and Devils as well, so I've got to go with them.

Carolina. Their defense remains pretty atrocious.

Washington doesn't have a keeper and just lost Semin. I'll take them.

Picked Philly. What have they done this offseason besides lose Jagr trade JVR for Schenn?

It probably just depends on Bryz.

Zajac missed almost the entire season with his injury so thats 20 goals right there. We will have our 4th line back from the playoffs which is better than Janssen Boulton Mills Sestito putting up zero goals the entire year so thats at least another 10-15 goals. I can see Sykora being signed again so thats 15 goals and Poni only scored 7 with us. So it is not as bad as you think, and young guys like Josefson Henrique and even Larsson will only get better. Heck a full season of Zidlicky will improve our offense, Devils needed a defenseman like that.

I love that everyone underestimates the Devils, good things always happen.

The reason I picked them... Holtby had a flashy play-off run, but I don't think he is a goalie who takes his team to the play-offs. 7th might even be too high for WSH

Philly just lost ANOTHER dman (Mezsaros out with torn achillies at least half the year), I'm gonna go with them being somewhere down here.

Philly was one of the best teams in the conference last year WITH a swiss cheese defense AND horrendous goalie play.

I really can't see Bryz being worse. No way does Philly finish this low.

Going with Washington.

No way.

Even last year with terrible goalie play/defense, they were still a top 5 team.

Im voting the Canes.

I can't see their D playing worse, I see them making an improvement there and with their offensive additions they should slide into the playoffs.

Philly. Bad defense. Worse goaltending and they won't get the same production on offense this year.

Washington - 3rd coach in two years (who has to start from the scratch), questionable situation in goal, on D and depth up front.

THN has the Islanders last in their yearbook. Columbus is last in the west and 30th overall. Its going to be a long year for Duby and Arty.

Quote:
Why: Eventually this team is going to take a step forward and it's probably going to come out of nowhere to surprise everyone. That's the general feeling around this team and though a few THN staffers feel the Isles are on the cusp of moving on up, it always comes back to the fact they're stuck in the difficult Atlantic Division. The Islanders will be hard-pressed to move out of the No. 5 spot in that grouping, which immediately puts them at a disadvantage. Goaltending is still a concern with or, more likely, without Rick DiPietro, though John Tavares is on track to superstardom.
