It'll be interesting to see if JD can do with CBJ what he did with STL.

Habs to buy out Scott Gomez

ESPN.com news services | January 13, 2013
The Montreal Canadiens plan to buy out Scott Gomez at the end of the season and save his $7.36 million cap hit, according to general manager Marc Bergevin.

Gomez
Bergevin told NHL.com that the team sent Gomez home from training camp Sunday after telling him the news.

Gomez will not be allowed to play in another league this season, Bergevin said, for if the 33-year-old center got injured, the team wouldn't be able to use a compliance buyout and remove his cap hit.

"We all know the rules, and we all know that next year, the cap's going down," Bergevin said, according to the website. "We had to judge what was best for us to give us the space to be able to comply by those rules."

Under the new CBA, there is a pro-rated salary cap of $70.2 million for the 2012-13 season, which will drop to $64.3 million for the 2013-14 season.

Gomez, who sometimes found himself on the fourth line, had 11 points in 2011-12. He was only able to play in 38 games due to various injuries.

Any news on Gamecenter pricing this year? I used hockeystreams.com last year, but if NHL Gamecenter is discounted by a lot, I might just consider using it.

The Devil's gave Gomez structure, he worked within their system. He thought he could take that success elsewhere and failed.

I personally just think he is lazy and has a bad attitude.

The only reason the fans stay away is due to all the losing the organization has done--they've only had one season where they had more wins than losses.

Backes > Nash now in the mainboard

Not worth the big contract. Better fitted for most team's needs. Better defensively. Nash had a down year (with CBJ)

Backes > Callahan/Nash.

We should post a Backes vs. Malkin or Crosby or Stamkos poll.

On the main board, a non-ranger >>>>> a ranger always.

There is a Western Conference Small Market fetish on the main boards.

Backes, Pietrangelo, Benn, and most of all, OEL.

They are all great players, but they are viewed as God on the main boards.

Backes is good, but he got really lucky last year. The opposing goalies had a .883 save percentage while the Blues goalies had a .920 sv percentage while he was on the ice. Both are very unsustainable numbers.

However if you look at the overall work Backes did last year, he was clearly better than both Nash and Callahan.

Darth Sather.

The Habs send Scott Gomez home for the season. A trade that will go down in infamy.

I was surprised to see Kevin Westgarth go to the Canes for Stewart, 4th'13 and a 6th'14.

Funny, I had a small part in the recruiting of Parros and Westgarth at Princeton, now they're both division rivals in the Southeast, those are gonna be some must see games

I'm not sure about lazy but I think for a supposed playmaker he's really not a very smart player at all. That's probably what hurt him the most when he lost the structure of NJ's system.

EDIT:
Sorry, I think I misread what you were saying.

Some players can't handle the pressure that comes with a new contract and more responsibility. Also, playing in New York City brings it's own unique set challenges, imo. I'm no expert, but what ever it is between the two some guys just can't deal.

Putting aside McDonaugh for a second this deal was amazing. Put Mac back in, and it begins to rise to infamous status
