Voted no strong opinion.

In terms of skill, yeah. In terms of total points and such, no... the disappointment stems from his lack of durability and missed games.

How does one of the best players in the game not live up to the hype?

Kind of agree with this. Really like Crosby and think he lived up to the predraft hype. But, add that predraft hype to his 100 pts season as an 18yo and to his Art Ross 120 pts season as a 19yo and I expected more. Not Gretzky like number for sure, but some 140-150 season. Something who would put him clearly ahead of the pack. We never saw that 18-19yo Crosby again until that 2010-2011 season were he return to the dominant force he was. That ankle injury seems to have slow him down ALOT in between those season.

It's sad, he was there, returning to that sky high level he show he could be at 18-19. Last year he was pretty good like always, but not at that sky high level and who knows if he'll reach it again. I really hope, because it would be a shame to see a player that talented peak at 19yo.

Yes he did live up to his hype. This guy won the stanley cup, gold medal, rocket richard, hart, etc. 104 points in his rookie season followed by a 120 point season. Even when he got that ankle spring he still put up solid numbers. If he did not get that concussion he would of won the Hart that year and other trophies. This guy is extremely talented. He gets a lot of hate but no one can say he did not live up to his hype so far and if he is healthy this year he will come back steaming. What also happens if the Pens never drafted Crosby?

Considering he's won vitrually everything meaningful there is to win in hockey and is already a first ballot HOFer even, I'd say so.

He's the best player of his era, and that's with all the injuries the last two seasons.

He's unarguably the best player in the game when he's playing.

Not thinking in terms of relativity he's the best hockey player the game's ever had by a clear margin. His level of play and work ethic has pushed the game to new heights.

I would say yes. If he stays healthy enough to get to 1000 points he's in the hall of fame for sure.

If he had played every game up until this point he would be pushing 800 points in 550 games, which means he could be pushing a 2000 point career in this era. That's pretty impressive.

Yes, but I feel that he could have gone to another level had he not been injured. Injuries are something that you can't predict. Because of them, he's lost out on (poentially) two Hart, Art Ross and Pearson trophies.

I just wish he was healthy in 2010-11 and played the full season. He was 'out of this world' good.

i am a huge penguins fan and even bigger crosby fan.

i think a case can be made that he hasnt quite lived up to the hype, or at least lived up to his talent. i really think the guy is capable of more than hes shown thus far. he has the skill and drive to be a top 10 player all-time. one art ross and mvp is disappointing.

injuries and terrible linemates have held him back offensively. i think hes capable of more and hope hes able to put together a few "all-time great" seasons.

It's almost impossible to put up points like Gretzky or Lemieux in today's game so people who genuinely believed that Crosby would be doing that are clearly delusional. Even Gretzky and Lemieux wouldn't put up points like that in today's game. Defensemen and goalies are better, equipment is better, skill and positioning is better, scoring is down, players are faster. It's just not possible to put up 200 points in the game how it is right now.

Yeah Jagr at the end of the 90' was crazy dominant (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1998%E2%80%9399_NHL_season), Hasek too.

Ovechkin big strech was not far is not about the same (little bit more offensive from Ov maybe but Crosby better all around and making a line by himself not using other star's minute during is dominance).

it's not hating when you don't think a 41 game stretch is the most impressive hockey you've seen in 16 years, it's being realistic.

Ovechkin had an even higher ppg in 09-10, when he was at 56 games he already had 92 points not to mention 37 goals in his first 50 games.

You wanna talk about dominant? Jagr's last 3 seasons on the Pens are easily more impressive then Crosby's 41 game season, considering he took home an Art Ross each season and actually played more then half of it.

81GP, 44 goals 83 assist 127 points Art Ross-Hart-First team allstar-lindsey
63GP, 42 goals 54 assist 96 points Art Ross-Hart nominee-First team allstar-lindsey
81GP, 52 goals 69 assist 121 points Art Ross-Hart nominee-First team allstar

Yeah which one of those doesn't beat out Crosbys 66 points in 41 games with nothing to show for it...

Heck Ovechkin's 65 goal season was probably more impressive hockey then Crosby's 41 games.
