Mark Scheifele still top prospect in Winnipeg Jets 2012 Fall Top 20

Consistent to their ideals, Winnipeg Jets management continued the trend of building the prospect base with big, tough, strong characters who put the team first. The team's top three picks from the 2012 draft all fit that identity and slot in very nicely into the Top 20.

1. (1) Mark Scheifele, C, 7.5C
Drafted 1st round, 7th overall, 2011

The Jets top prospect played a lot of hockey this past season, suiting up for four different teams. Starting the season with the Jets, Scheifele knocked in his first NHL tally in a nine game cameo before returning to the Barrie Colts to prep for the WJC with Canada.… read more

Trolling for sure

From the Cormier write up:

Quote:
With time running out on his prospect status, this former second-rounder needs to elbow out some room for himself on the Jets roster.

Seems to me they left the 6.5C rating machine on - when rating our prospects.

posted in another thread but might as well post it here under the Scheif thread:

This is a funny video of an interview of Subban in foot race with Rielly but the third guy (in the race clip) is our boy Scheif and it looks like he is putting on the right kind of weight this off season.....on top of that Mark can pick them up and put them down in the 100 meter dash.

Ok... read this twice and now I need to post my comment...

Yes, the right kind of weight... not to be confused with another player who is expected to shed off the wrong kind of weight.

I like where HF has O'Neill slotted. He should be in the top 15, in my opinion. I'm looking forward to seeing how he does in St. John's this year.

That's definitely not Scheifele doing the interview (although that would be funny).

I got to watch it last night during Sportscentre and they said Mark Masters interviewed them.

By the way... Schief's looking good! Definitely a bigger guy. Hope he makes the big club this season.

I hope he makes it and contributes this year also. Something tells me, though, they have a plan for Scheif.

Something like... Another yr in Barrie/WJC/OHL playoffs/IceCap playoffs, then a full year in AHL with the IceCaps. Then when Oli's contract is up, Scheif steps in to a top 6 center role ready to contribute in a significant way - with a couple of yrs of his ELC left.

In my mind I have always thought Mark would be developed slow on a plan and at best it would be the Eberle path of 2 additional years in juniors after the draft and at worst it would be the Adam Henrique plan of 2 extra years of juniors and 1 full AHL season (notice i picked wildly successful versions of where patience paid off)

The reality is that Mark will make the Jets when he is ready and kicks down the door. That may be this fall.......that may be next fall.......or it may be in two years? I have full faith that TNSE will not rush him but will also not hold him back when he is ready.

Jokinen has afforded us the luxury of not having to force the issue now, and, the possibility of a lock out might seal Mark's fate as a junior for another season anyways.

IMO any doubts that Scheifele isn't our top prospect are misplaced. As it stands now he is the front runner to be the first line centre and on the 1ST PP unit for Canada at the world juniors if he doesn't make the Jets. Pretty solid prospect if you ask me. Worst case senario he is a 60 point second line centre in the NHL, but with his attitude and drive my guess he will be much more than this.
