What have you done to it(the weather)? Since I came back, there's no sun.

My take on retirement is that those fortunate enough to enjoy their careers have less incentive to stop, and if they keep at it, they tend to stay mentally alert late in life, which probably also entails being healthier. You often see it with profs, MDs, and professional musicians, especially jazz and classical guys (although the Rolling Stones are also getting up there...). Edit: great native Montrealer Oscar Peterson kept going his whole life (until, what, 82?).
by the way, I spent a lot of time in your neck of the woods.
For a while I was running a baby bell in Tysons Corner VA. You remember when those two nut cases were shooting up the Virgina from the trunk of their car you know, they caught them somewhere close to Frederick.
They were shooting up the place darn close to my Apartment in Herndon.

With respect to retirement. I've seen faculty members remain active until their late 70s early 80s. Why not. They seem happy. I'll start with getting tenure
You and I disagree on poutine, though. My favorite Quebec dish is Tourtière du Lac St-Jean, as can be seen on my description (my mother is from that region, and I was born there...). Also like confit de canard though.

Anyhow, I'm at Old Dominion, as of last summer. I have 5 years left to make tenure. I hope to make it an easy decision: very active with proposals and collaborative work. Also hope to populate a start-up in my research area.

Should have stayed in Portugal in August and enjoy all the festas with all the other immigrants coming back for vacation.

I'm currently in Honours English Literature. I'm still deciding between graduate school in English Lit. (in order to become a professor), or applying for Law School.

Although I'm not a creative writing student, I've submitted a couple of poems and short stories to literary contests. But I've yet to win any (although I've come in 2nd place.) I've also been writing a lot this summer, so I'll send a few of my works to Montreal literary magazines and hope I get published.

Right now, I'm in Ottawa just working part-time at a grocery store.

I've also been volunteering at my local community centre for the past two years now, working with kids at an after-school program. It's a lot of fun.

Anyways, it's been pretty fascinating reading about the variety of professions among you guys.

Edit: Any referrals to a part-time job would be greatly appreciated.

I will elaborate a little more on what I do. Before I simply said "finance" but really, my job is a coach.

I worked for several years as a financial advisor handling loans, mortgages and managing investment and retirement portfolios for a wide range of clients (some very poor, some very wealthy, some only starting out, etc...).

Today I am a "coach"...I am essentially a sales advisor for a team of reps that specialize in loans and mortgages. I help develop their sales techniques and approaches to maximize their sales results and ensure top level client experience. Very cool and fun job. The approach we use in this type of coaching role is adapted from sports coaching, it's pretty progressive and very interesting.

I'd require your services but you would most likely just say "dude, you're retarded with money" and that's it.

damn

edit: what I meant is I suck with money. I wasn't insinuating anything about you. I just realized that wasn't clear

What style writing did you do in regards to poems? Not asking technical but what's your style?

As for part time jobs it depends what you're looking for.

Architect. Far away. I love it and work hard, but all in all, would rather be a prosperous carpenter in MTL and go to 41 Habs games a year.

I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you.
