John Carlson's next contract

Sorry if this has been done already, in which case please lock the thread or link to the other one, but since he doesn't have a contract yet, I wonder how much he will cost to re-sign.

Is Washington the kind of team to sign a player to a short 2nd contract?

I think he's going to cost over $4 guaranteed, maybe more....

Cheaper on a 2 year, but I'd hate to see the Caps go that route and risk this guy blowing up offensively and cost a lot more.

Green's previous was 4 years I think. I think the Caps wanna lock this kid up longterm, but I suspect he's asking for big $$ for those UFA years.

Unless your name is Alexander Ovechkin or Nicklas Backstrom, yes.

I would like to have him (or Alzner) in OTT but would cost to much (or 4 1st+ a lot of money) to move either one of them out of WAS

I wouldnt sign him 4-5 years. If the CBA UFA age doesnt change he'll be close to UFA or at the UFA youngest age(27).

For me, it's 2 years or 6+ years to buy some UFA years.

Thats what I think for Subban, Benn, Carlsson....

I'm saying mine is for an offer-sheet.

The Sens don't have their 2nd Round Pick, so the max they could offer Carlson is just over $5 000 000, and doing anything less than 5 years probably results in an insta-match.

Anything short of four 1sts results in insta-match. The Caps have about $13M in cap space (factoring in Poti on LTIR) and are not going to lose Carlson for draft picks.

I was more thinking this. I REALLY doubt he gets signed before the new CBA is signed anyway but the Caps are in a safe place with cap right now. He will probably get around $4 mil which should still keep them under whatever the new cap is...so they shouldn't need to buy anyone out. Though not signing with this CBA could have its drawbacks as well...

better chance than you think. last off season people around here were talking big money for alzner to sign his rfa contract. didnt come close. carlson was awful last season and remembered his game in the playoffs.

its not going to take as much to lock him up as many might think

2 years, $4M (more or less what Subban would take for a short-term deal)

3years $1.7m, $2.2m, & $3m

People forget that Alzner at this same point last season signed a 2yr deal that paid him just $2.6m TOTAL. Alzner is way more valuable to the Caps than Carlson is. I'm sure the Caps are looking to get Carlson signing something similar to what Alzner did last year.

Both Alzner and Carlson will be due for big raises eventually...
