Kreider will be playing major minutes for the Whale during the lockout. They will have a talented group of forwards. Kreids. Miller. Thomas. Yogan. Hrivik. Bourque.
Careers are getting shortened, and a lot of team physicians are responsible for misdiagnosing players.
I know it sucks for fans when their own teams' guys are UFA eligible, but these guys need it. NHL life ends at around 35, give or take. Not everyone becomes a coach or scout or broadcaster.
A lot of ex-NHL'ers are not living well right now.
Owners don't feed their families from NHL revenues. Being an NHL owner is a pet project. They will tell you they became billionaires by being cheap and frugal. The players want to hear none of that.

Oh stop. Working as an NHL player making millions of dollars for 10-15 seasons there should be NO REASON to not live well upon retirement. Create a nest egg, invest well, and there shouldn't be any problems. You could literally live the rest of your life off of a one time payment of 5 million dollars if invested properly. The guys who fall hard after their careers are over probably lived a rockstar lifestyle and nothing but.
You're talking about a kid who is about to get his first full taste of the NHL. Nash is definitely going to be above him. So the other top 6 spot is going to either Hagelin or Kreider.
Kreider played on the top-6 (at times) in the playoffs, but also keep in mind he was a LOT fresher than everyone else on the ice. Hagelin showed chemistry with Richards and Gaborik, and can perfectly play a needed role on that line while allowing higher talent to be dispersed elsewhere.
There is no way Kreider is going above Nash on the second line, and there is no way Kreider is going to play on the second line over Callahan.
It's foolish to expect Kreider to come out of the gate and immediately receive top-6 minutes from John Tortorella, especially considering that his defense was spotty in the post season.
Good points. I think Kreider will spend the season alternating between 3rd line and top 6 minutes. Its a healthy way to bring along a kid that needs to learn the nuances of the pro game.
Just makes me chuckle when people declare "Kreider will not be on the 3rd line" - Ill be thinking of then when they're proven wrong relatively early in the season.
Good idea. Here is a list of the available free agent centers who scored at a significantly higher rate at ES than Brian Boyle:
Touche. And he did this with only 28.8% of shifts starting in the offensive end. If he played 40-50% of shifts in offensive end, he likely would add 15-20 pts. He is a great 3rd line center.
A lockout won't substantially harm the game. Only losing an entire season would do that.
Agree with that last sentence. I alway chuckle when people talk about Gaborik being out till Nov-Dec. Its very likely hockey won't even start until January. Maybe even later, who knows. What we do know is that it is more likely that the season will not start on time than it will.
NHL boss Gary Bettman must have grown tired of the optimists speculating there will be no lockout. So he made the obvious plain on Thursday by saying a lockout is on if there is no collective agreement by Sept. 15. Everyone must realize the owners and players are oceans apart on the key issue - does the revenue gap between the rich and poor teams get filled out of the players' pockets or from revenue sharing. Better find a hobby this fall, folks. The earliest you'll see NHL hockey is December.
The Winter Classic is too important for both sides. $175 is the average ticket for the WC in Ann Arbor. 116,000-118,000 fans which are the numbers used by Kevin Allen. They are expected to draw in excess of 110,000 fans. That's $20M in ticket revenue alone. The NHL rents out the stadium for $3M and pays the Red Wings for their lost home gate. Everything goes in the NHL's pocket. Concessions. Beer. The NHL got a temporary 30 day liquor license to sell beer at the game. Beer isn't sold during Michigan football games. Food. Souvenirs.

HBO four part series? That's worth some bucks too.
It's about the profits the league generates and the NHL is the least profitable of the big 4.
precisely.
baseball also has the most games played and bigger stadiums, hence FAR more profitable and higher salaries. nfl has fewer games, but gigantic stadiums. nhl stadiums are smaller, the sport is far more expensive to play in general, and is just flat out not popular comparitively.

All solid points.
Met Life holds 82 thousand.
Which is more than 3 times what MSG holds for a Rangers game.

It's a dumb argument. Boyle was the 3rd line center last year, of course he will be this year. It's the same as arguing if Stepan should be our #2, just stop with this 2 month nonsense.
