so i am currently in medical school, about half-way thru. the med school has a combined degree program with the business school here, wharton. basically, with one extra year of study, you get can an MBA from wharton.

i have no business experience and would stand no chance of getting into wharton applying from the outside. however the standards are different for med students, so i would have a fairly decent just of getting in thru this joint degree program.

now would be the time to apply. BASICALLY i'm trying to figure out how valuable an mba from wharton would be.

i have no business experience nor a burning passion to have an mba. i do however find myself interested in healthcare policy and enjoy casually staying abreast of whats going on in the business world... i probably find that stuff more interesting than basic science stuff.

i probably want to become a practicing doctor, but im not like super-stoked for it. if something better came along, i would do that. right now my very tentative plan is to practice medicine and open my own practice. so business skills would help, but not the sort of stuff an mba would teach.

but everyone says an mba from wharton is a great opportunity. i dont want to miss this chance and then in 20 years (when id like a more administrative role) regret not getting the mba. however, even if there is a great amazing deal on a pair of hockey skates, you wouldnt buy them unless you play hockey (pretty sweet analogy eh).

so how much weight does an mba from wharton carry? is it the kind of thing thats always good to have?

any thoughts are welcome because i have no idea what to do. the opinions i get from people are generally biased towards becoming an academic (make little money but get your name in journals), which i def dont want to do.
I come from a long line of country bumpkins, ne'er do-wells, fools, and drunkards.

Even I know you'd be making a very poor decision to not get that MBA. Wharton is a big deal, my friend. Think of a can't miss prospect. Not quite Crosby. But more Yakupov than...hmmm....I don't know. Just get the damn degree

I own a car.

That's about the most I can bring to any discussion about cars.

Pretty much. I have a ****** car, it's slow, and it's a terrible color, but it runs. That's as in depth as I can get about it.

I can change the oil and brakes on my own though, so I'm sort of like a PhD to your freshman!

My dad taught me how to change the oil and brakes in my first car...but failed to tell me that you have to pump the air out of the brake lines.

Short story even shorter...I killed my neighbor's garden.

Just do it, assuming you feel like paying for it. An MBA from Wharton is a huge deal.
