I would have voted Montreal, but I'm not biased.

Voted for Winnipeg, although, I believe Winnipeg should be much higher than 25...

Montreal, and even that's too low. People are basing these opinions solely off last season.

Vegas puts the Oilers 18th, yet HF will put the Oilers 25th or 26th.

There's absolutely no way the Habs are a bottom five team again next season.

People have such short memories around here.

Here it is with proper standings format.
East

1) Pittsburgh
2) Boston
3) Washington
4) NYR
5) Philadelphia
6) Buffalo - missed 2012 playoffs
7) Carolina - missed 2012 playoffs
8) Ottawa

9) New Jersey - 2012 playoff team
10) Tampa Bay
11) Florida - 2012 playoff team

West
1) Vancouver
2) St. Louis
3) Los Angeles
4) Chicago
5) San Jose
6) Minnesota - missed 2012 playoffs
7) Detroit
8) Dallas - missed 2012 playoffs

9) Nashville - 2012 playoff team
10) Colorado
11) Anaheim
12) Phoenix - 2012 playoff team
13) Calgary

---

Seems based almost entirely on last year, with the exception of the big free agent splashes (Carolina, Minnesota & Dallas) subbing in for the big free agent losers (New Jersey & Nashville & potentially a Doan-less Phoenix).

Because Vegas clearly has the inside track on prediciting the season before it unfolds?

At some point the Oilers have to get better, but I'd be awfully surprised if they jump up that far in one year. They need Dmen and a goalie in a tough Western conference. Their 1st overall picks are still kids. I dont see them doing much of anything this year. 25-26th would be generous imo.

If given the choice I would obviously take Edmonton over Montreal or Toronto in a heartbeat if I was looking past next year, but I still say that Edmonton does worse than both.

Winnipeg again, Oilers tomorrow.

After that, it's going to be a cluttered decision between the Isles, Leafs, and Habs....

Vegas does. If they are wrong by more than ~5%, there's the potential for them to lose a ton of money.

They have the most accurate predictions. Of any sport. If you can beat Vegas by the slimmest of margins, you can make yourself rich.

Come on HF, give the Oilers some credit. I probably sound like a homer, but there's no way we are bottom 5 again. It's just not gonna happen. It seems to me people aren't following the development curve of teams here, and only base their predicitions off trades and last seasons standings.

The Oilers were a terrible team for good reasons the last few years and I didn't mind seeing them slotted as a lottery team, but I just can't see that happening this season. The bottom teams in the NHL aren't generally there for very long if they stockpile some good talent. We aren't just stirring in mediocrity anymore, there will be some change.

People make our team out to be far worse than it actually is.

If the Oilers put together a halfway competent season this year, they'll start getting some credit. Until then, I just don't have faith in their team and I especially don't have faith in their organization. Personally, I think they'll start fairly decently and raise folks' hopes, but crash and burn near the end of the stretch as the wear and tear of the season catches up to them.

Vegas doesn't have to predict the outcomes (and they don't aim to). They just have to predict the *betting*. If they've done their jobs right they've already guaranteed profit before the season begins for *any* outcome, because for every potential winner the proceeds from the people who bet on the losers more than covers the payouts to the winners, with the excess becoming profit.
