I liked what I read about him right after the draft. He instantly became my favorite pick of 2011 (obviously not counting Larsson; not just because of his badass name I absolutely fell in love with haha) and I`ve bee rooting for him ever since. As someone said, he could very well become a great complimentary 3rd line player in the NHL. Both Boucher, and especially, Scarlett have a lot of promise, but I`m not sure I have such faith in them.

As for 2012, same can be said for Severson, except he has all the tools to become a star if he`s developed properly. Can`t really say that about Coleman though. Black or Gavrus could be the dark horse of this draft class.

And let`s not forget about Pietila. As Jason mentioned before, he and Coleman have the potential to once make the team and be successful members on a shutdown line. Pietila`s numbers in his freshman year look more than solid.

Despite the fact I`d love to see one or two flashier prospects in the system, I really like this group. Seems like we have some good character guys among them too. Now it`s all about the development.

I see Coleman and I start thinking he could be the new John Madden. But you never know, his true potential in the NHL might be even higher than that if he continues to develop his scoring touch.

1. Merrill
2. Gelinas
3. Matteau
4. Urbom
5. Wedgewood
6. Boucher
7. Severson
8. Gavrus
9. Scarlett
10. Johnson

Some pretty interesting picks, plus he has NHL comparables for each as well.
I hate the Johnson-Henrique comparison. It comes strictly because Johnson is a center for Windsor.

Another classic is Pelley-Madden

Just an FYI Coleman isn't a defensive forward. He's not going to make it to the NHL on his defensive ability.

From what he said in the comments, Johnson plays a similar smart two way game with speed. When Henrique was drafted, they had the exact same reports. While he may have been able to use guys like Madden as a comparable instead, Henrique is a good comparable.

Coleman is more in the role of a complimentary scorer, or at least that's what I think. Kind of what Sykora was for us last year. If e rounds out his game, he could be a good third liner with some scoring touch as well.

I didn't say that, I said he'd play in a role like Sykora did last year. Like the complimentary scorer player, I couldn't think of a good NHL comparable.

Lol that's a pretty broad statement then; anyone in the bottom 9.

Anyway, weekend means we'll be getting game updates about the kids soon. What have we been reduced to this season?

Jeeze, Boucher's been rough so far. Though if you look at their team, there's lots of minuses and Galchenyuk isn't dominating nearly like you'd expect him to.

Anyways, it's nice seeing Johnson, Thomson, and Black (a law firm?) all with points. It'll be real interesting to see if Thomson develops into anything more than a goon.

I've always been of the opinion that the Devils can turn anybody into a defensive forward with proper development. Madden and Pandolfo weren't particularly known for it in their respective college careers, but the Devils moulded them into a feared defensive duo.

Coleman might be a scorer at the NHL level, I'm not sure how close to NHL calibre his offensive skills are. But if they're not up to snuff, he needs to find another way to earn his keep. If he's a complementary scorer, that's great too. But there's nothing wrong in hoping that he learns to be better defensively too.

I just always assumed Coleman would develop a strong two-way game because of comments about his work-ethic. Honestly, he seems a lot like Henrique to me, at least skill-set wise. We saw Henrique as an ideal 3rd line center not because he was a top-notch defensive player in Juniors, but because he had a reputation for working hard and being counted on to do the little things right.

Anybody know how I could be able to see the Blainville Armada games tonight.
I saw it started at 4 pm est, can I stream it or do I have to buy it. If so where do I do that.
Hope anybody can help a struggling Dane to get my hockey fix!!!
Love that S. Matteau kid, 215 pounds already, ****.. Really like he's nasty style of play.

I feel like we've started to compare every hard working mid round forward pick to Henrique. I'm not complaining, but I find it funny that Coleman, Johnson, and Pietila are all drawing comparisons to the same player.

Here are the Michigan Tech goals from last night. The Furne goal is actually a Pietila deflection.

Pietila is up to 4 goals already in the early going. Great start to his sophomore season. The Mich Tech/Minnesota game is actually on The Score tonight for those in Canada! I've got my PVR set already.
