This is Ben Thomson's fourth OHL season and he has 12 points in 31 games. He's turning 20 in January.

I don't think people realize that third liner in the OHL does not equal third liner in the NHL. Most third liners in the NHL were very good scorers in juniors.

Wouldn't surprise me, it seems like he always is. He can do that now, but he's going to have to clean it up a bit in the NHL so he doesn't run afoul of Sheriff Shanahan.

Yeah, Thomson is much more likely to be Eric Boulton than David Clarkson. He could still be a valuable player, but expecting even a competent 3rd line player out of him is a stretch.

Seems like he's always suspended? It's been 2 months since he was suspended. He's most likely just resting for USA WJC camp.

Michigan looked awful. Their PP is definitely missing Merrill's QB abilities. Trouba has a howitzer but isn't really the guy you want to QB. I think they ran a stat and Michigan is 5% on the PP over the last ten games or so. They had 5 on 3 and Western Michigan nearly scored on a partial breakaway.

One of the announcers did mention that Merrill was expected back possibly by late January. Hopefully his recovery is going well.

There were also an inordinate amount of NHL folks taking in the game. As I learned during my trip, it's pretty to catch Michigan/Plymouth/USNTDP in a short amount of time. But Plymouth and the US U-18 team aren't in town this week.

They had Mike Babcock and Brian Burke for interviews. Steve Yzerman and Barry Trotz were also in the building. Western Michigan's Danny DeKeyser was likely the main attraction. He is a top college FA and Bob McKenzie said that virtually every NHL team would be luring him with a contract. DeKeyser has connections with the Red Wings, which would explain Babcock's presence. Yzerman and Trotz were possibly there just to check up on their previously drafted prospects.

He's been suspended at least twice that I can think of, and come close a few more times. That's more than most players. He's racking up the PIMs too. That's fine, but I just want to make sure he knows where the line is.

I watched Miami vs Ohio St last night.

Gedig is a great skater for a plyer his size, but he had a rough night.
A few unforced giveaways and he got pushed around a lot by much smaller Miami players.
I do however see NHL potential with him if he continues to develop.

Hard to tell with Coleman, he was used in a lot of key draws and you could see he plays a physical style.

Does anyone know Kerfoot's injury?

As for the discussion of Thomson, there have been quite a few players that did not tear up the scoring sheets in juniors and ended up having solid NHL careers.
They jury is still out for him, let's hope he improves his game and can help Albany and possibly NJ down the road.

Denmark. End game, 4-1 Belarus.

Artus Gavrus just named best forward of the tournament.

Slovenia keeper Gracnar best goalie, he was purely amazing. A starter in Austria senior league at 16.

I know the cards had to fall perfectly, but did Belarus make the promotion to Division I next year?

The WJC is gonna be played in Malmoe (Sweden) next year, so I hope my country Denmark would have won so they could play against the best. I will go to the tournament next that this is only 20 min from Copenhagen were I live. But now I hope I get to see gavrus instead.

It may not have been the strongest competition, but Gavrus certainly impressed in this tournament. Hope this gives him a confidence boost that sparks his play in his domestic league too.

I'm definitely going as well. The atmosphere for a hockey game in Malmö arena is the best in Sweden.
